Great fishery, beautiful scenery. Two rods both fishing for Barbel/Chub. 5 Barbel 5lbs and up, best 8lbs. 3 Chub best 4lbs. All fish were in excellent condition, although a couple of Barbel slightly thin across their backs. A great day first time on the Wye.

Water was low and clear. Barbel clearly visibly spawning and therefore quite pleased that we caught any. My colleague picked up all four barbel with a biggest of 7lbs 10oz. An excellent day none the less and looking forward to returning later in the summer.

My first visit to this beat, which is beautiful both lower and upper beat. The lower being the easier to fish and access, unfortunately no fish banked today.

The barbel are still spawning (I observed this one evening on the camp site I was staying at) so I think they are two to three weeks behind due to the low Spring/early Summer temperatures.
This was my first time at this fishery and so spent some time walking all the banks. I say walking the banks but the upper section is more like deep jungle and impossible to fish from the bank for trees. Fished the upper section long trotting with bread flake for five nice chub.

A very tough first say of the season, only four chub caught with myself catching three of them. Beautiful stretch of the Wye but a little disappointed with access. Even with chest waders I would estimate only six to seven swims that you can safely get to without a rope. Could do with some work to make it a bit more angler friendly as this low number of swims split between four anglers along the entire stretch isn’t ideal, especially for £20 per angler! I’m sure as the season progresses the catches will improve, perhaps just a bit too early for the barbel after a three month break.

No fish caught or seen river was low, unable get to the top or bottom of Sugwas due to no styles at bottom end and no foot stool on the part by the orchard making very hard to climb over.
Accommodation - stopped at Cannon Bridge House, very nice cottage very clean and owner ver pleasant
I must say that l was disappointed after l booked the water to find that l was fishing the other side of the river.I find it unfair that you can only have the directions to where you are fishing after you have paid, bearing in mind l do not live in the area and travel over 80 miles for salmon fishing which l am new to.

WUF note - The beat description in the Passport and on the Website does clearly state 'Just over one mile of 'left bank' fishing a few miles above Hereford'.

A great way to spend the last day of the season. Lovely weather, with river relatively low and clear. Fished 6 pegs on the bottom stretch and caught on each one. Pre-baited first thing in the morning and then fished from the bottom end up to the broken water just downstream of the woods. Had some cracking grayling up to just under 2lbs and several nice trout on maggott feeder - size 12 hook (3 maggotts) and 10lb mainline just in case a barbel came along. Got chub (up to 5lb+) on ledgered meat and small elipse pellets with micro pellets in the feeder. Barbel appeared from luchtime onwards - all caught on large elipse pellets with a combination of groundbait feeder and micro pellets. All barbel between 8 and 9.5lb. Another great day - roll on June the 16th!!

Started on upper beat. I stuck out for 1 chub on meat. Noisy pike anglers on opposite bank. Went back to lower beat and caught 3 barbel on maggot and feeder as yesterday. Thanks Wye & Usk.
