Last session before the close of the river coarse season, almost year since our last visit to Sugwas, weather the same, river level as low and strangely the same number of fish caught!! All fish to pellet and feeder combination, chub mainly in 3-4lb bracket, just the one barbel 6lb 10oz. Lot of salmon showing during the day. As always this stretch is a graveyard for feeders even on heavy tackle, but thats the price you pay for feeder fishing the Wye.
Roll on June 16th.

Had hoped for some late-season Barbel action, but the frosty start and low and clear water put paid to that. However the Chub were obliging and I caught steadily
on maggot and breadflake. The river was a lot lower than at any point I saw it last summer!
SC from Oakley: You're very much mistaken, I caught the biggest Chub of the day!

An excellent days sport in low water conditions. 6 chub caught between 2 and 3.5 pounds. Had only previously fished this swim when it was much higher. Coming back later in the summer to hopefully catch the barbel that were not feeding on this occasion. One other angler on this section on the day and he may have caught one more fish but I think mine were bigger!

9 Chub 1 WBT all on bread. River level was as low as it has been all season and the fish were hard to find. We fished every swim from the bottom field to the top wood and found fish in 5 of them. 1 dead Pike and 1 dead Barbel around 8lb on bankside. Lots of signs of Otters on the banks.

17 Chub on bread and Cheese paste. River level low and clear. Fished several swims but couldn't find fish in the usual winter spots. Caught fish from fast shallow water.

First ever trip on the Wye targeting pike but my mate went for chub/dace etc. He blanked and I managed a jack. River was flowing faster than I'd of liked but enjoyed it. Many thanks.

River about as good as you would expect in winter. 2 rods after Pike using deads and lures. Not a touch all day.
One rod per person severely hampers the ability to explore a stretch of this length and becomes overly expensive for one rod over time. I appreciate the desire not to over pressurise pike but with four anglers only on the entire beat at any one time (and from catch reports the overwhelming majority of those in search of Barbel and Chub) that is hardly likely to happen. Won't be back here for Pike and it might be an idea for Wye/Usk to review their policy.
