We arrived at 8.30 am, just about the same time as the rain, which at times was the heaviest I've ever experienced. It appears we caught the edge of the storm that was to cause heavy flooding in the Midlands & beyond.
The day of extremes continued with a very hot sunny afternoon.
We moved around but, for the first time, struggled for fish as the river sped up, coloured and rose slightly, eventually ending up with just 7 barbel, including a nice broad, deep fish of about 9 to 9 1/2 lbs and a few small chub. Hopefully next time the weather will be kinder.

Fished upstream from the Orchard.
Only 1 x 2lb chub - missed several more!
Still a fair bit of current to the river.

Weather changable, river level up but falling. 2/3rds of the riverbank was inaccessible. Having not fished this stretch before, I assume that under normal river level conditions, the inaccessible areas are reachable by wading. This said, 2 rods caught 5 barbel up to around 6lb and several chub.

Fished 1st day in the deeper swims at the lower end. River still running very high making fishing difficult. Managed 3 barbel and 6 chub with the best barbel just under 9lb. Second day fished above the orchard. River dropping and loosing some colour. Had 12 barbel and 3 chub.

My second visit and another very successful day. River was very high and most of the best swims were not available - will have to try the 'banker' another time. Found a slack spot and was in to fish on 2nd cast. Managed 13 fish in total. 8 barbel to 9.5lb and 5 very large chub - with the largest over 6.5lb. All caught on 8ml and 15ml elipse pellets with 3/4ml pellets in a block end feeder. Size 10 hooks with the pellets glued to a hair. 12lb hooklink and 15lb main line - lots of snags and very strong current. Another excellent W&U location - I will be back.

3 barbel around the 7lb mark on hallibut pellets and a few bumbed of the hook between three of us. It needs to lose a bit of water - very tricky to fish but a beautiful spot.

First time on the Wye. A literal baptism. High water and lots of rain for most of the day. Caught one chub to save the day. Looking forward to another day when or if we get proper summer.
