The second of two days on this beat and I stayed in the lower section until the late afternoon, spent the morning trotting the big pool for regular trout up to 1lb and chub to 4lb +. Really enjoyed this, roved about looking for barbel without success in late afternoon. Tried most areas near and far with a feeder, only found chub. Water temp at 9.3 c. Finally finished with barbel of 6lbish. Bankside steps were a great help where installed.

Water at 9c looked promising, water level not high on this the first of two days. Tried several swims including the jungle woodland at the top, this will be impossible to access with some growth. There really are only a handful of swims for an angler wanting to sit comfortably in the top section but a very nice beat that I will fish again. Very quiet and private. A trickle of chub before I found some barbel and caught three up to 7 lbs before packing up. Parking is right by the river so a good spot for those less able and several swims with steps that were okay. Faces West so nice sunset.

Weather conditions were bright and partly overcast and the river was pushing through.
Fished for the Chub with liquidised bread and flake and managed to land 3 with a further 3 lost. Fished the slack water on a roving basis.

Was looking forward to this all month as a day on the banks on Christmas day was too good to be true, much to the other halts dismay!

The tables turned when I turned up knowing we had been having a decent amount of rain, only to find the stretch unfishable. Now I will still try normally no matter what, but it was raging through with the top edge of the field being touched by the waters edge so I admitted defeat.

I will definitely be back again however as it looks like a cracking stretch of river. My advice to those booking however is to keep a close eye on the forecast and do not underestimate the rainfall as I did. Out of pocket by £20 but I suppose I managed a decent walk!
