The day started at 6.30am with clear blue skies and rising temperatures. The Orchard beat was characterised by deep glides interspersed with gravelly runs. The bait pool is currently inaccessible due to a fallen tree, but the beach below the wood offered immediate sport with five Chub and a Barbel.
As the sun rose higher and the temperature exceeded 25 degrees, we drove to the second car park and explored the first meadow, below the Orchard.
The upper section of the meadow offers shallows and gravel beaches. The lower section is made up several deeper pools with high banks. There are however four accessible swims, where fish can be netted if care is taken on the bank.
The Chub came steadily throughout the afternoon to meat and pellet feeder. During the evening we moved to the last pool in front of the Court. This produced Barbel to 6lb+.
Given the beat is over a mile in length and each of the three sections is bordered by overgrown boundaries it pays to use the car to access the three beats. A couple of hours reconnoitring on a prior occasion would be advisable, as the conditions will very much determine your choice of location. Traditional roaming is not really an option currently in the heat of the summer with ultra low water levels.
We will be back to catch that "double"

Good day at sugwas, 5 barbel from roughly 4 - 7lb, 15 good sized chub up to ~5lb and some smaller chublets. River low and clear and bright conditions throughout the day. Fish caught from 2 spots towards the upper end of the stretch which have produced before in low flow conditions. Feeder with pellet, boilie or corn all produced.

Firstly directions to venue are very vague , signage on the entrance gate would be very useful. we did not actually fish as we could only find one swim which could be accessed and that was too difficult for anglers of advancing years like ourselves!! we will defiantly not be coming back to Sugwas court.
