A hard day on a beautiful venue. Fished all our usual swims but last nights rain meant that a slightly different approach was required. We both had a good sized chub each from our first swims then it all went very quiet.
After a few hours with only one barbel to show for our efforts we spent an hour practising Wallis casting in the field. This paid dividends as M had his first barbel on the Wallis cast and centrepin which went 9lb 10oz.
Stayed until dusk but couldnt manage anything apart from another smaller chub.
We expected a few more bites but after the rain last night the water had risen and felt colder than expected for September. Who knows what the reason was but it was an enjoyable day nonetheless.
Top wildlife from today was a goldcrest, a pair of nuthatch and a green woodpecker.

Spent time in the morning carefully baiting swims both from the bank and by wading out. In the afternoon we got the centrepins out and waded. The flow was manageable but the substrate demanded some care as it was slippery. We shared the bank with the cows and provided them with great entertainment when we crossed the silt and mud on leaving the river! We caught a beautiful Chub by this method. During the early evening we changed to standard feeder tactics which yielded 3 Barbel (to 8lbs) and 2 Chub (largest 5lbs 8ozs). Incredibly beautiful scenery and lots of interesting wildlife. Look forward to a return visit.

River low and clear - very hot with bright sunshine all conspiring to make catching very difficult - 3 barbel, the best being just over 8lb and 2 chub between 3lb and 4lb - will be back when the river has been flushed through after a good spell of heavy rain.

Good parking and access to this beat, plenty of good areas to fish from, great location. Didn't manage a barbel on this beat, first time I've never caught one on the Wye. Did manage a few good chub though, so not a blank! Really didn't know where to fish to on this stretch, I just cast to areas that looked like they'd hold fish. My advice is if you've never fished a certain beat before, research it as much as you can to avoid disappointment. Local advice and tips are invaluable.

After a weekend of heavy rain we were met by a coloured and rising river. Debris washed down by the strong current proved problematic, and we spent our time fishing the slower water between the overhanging tree's/snags. Overall a cracking day on a picturesque stretch of the River Wye, already looking forward to our return.

A tough day at Sugwas where we fished the middle and lower sections. We would have preferred to fish the upper section but the weather / conditions were not appropriate. Two fish were taken early in the day and then very quiet after that.
