This spot is full of fish, all of the chub were around 3 to 4 pounds and the barbel around 8 pound .
Due to river level fished very end of beat unfortunately it was full of snags, lost a few fish and a lot of feeders, hence I packed up a lot earlier than usual.

It's been a VERY long time since I've fished the first day of the river season as it's normally more miss than hit for me. I'd been rewarded with a beautiful sunrise and an indecisive wild boar on my journey before I'd even seen the river. I fed the bottom pool with some pellet before fishing the run on the float on meat over hemp. 3 nice chub in the first hour before a move to the bottom pool produced 5 chub, 2 eels and a small barbel on bomb and meat over loose feed. Couldn't get a bite on pellets
Another move back up on the run gave me 2 more small barbel on corn and a blackcap feeder/hemp before a last go on the float produced 2 more chub. Left at 1300. Nothing over 3lb but a solid start, enjoyable start to the season on a gorgeous morning.

Access to swim much better thanks. River moderate level and fast flowing so difficult to keep clear of floating branches and shaggy bottom. Fished all day and missed one run until last knocking saw a 3lb Chubb in the net.

Saw a salmon leap over the ‘wire’.

Freelined and lightly legered meat did the trick once we located the fish. Fish ranged from 2-4 lbs. No indications of barbel. Hopefully they’ll be there as usual in June.

Complete washout. Couldn't even get to the water to attempt to fish. Certainly not a beat for higher water levels. And please wye & usk. Change your info. The courtfield Arms no longer exists. Is now ' river wye Lodge. We struggled to find location until we did a few drive byes.

The water was high, fast and coloured. A passing regular Wyebank angler stopped and suggested we request a wash off but after a two hour drive we decided to fish and concentrate on the near bank water with its slower flow. Meat worked. Tried pellets but no takers.

Four chub to fly angler MH, re-visiting coarse fishing after an interval of 45 years. The other (and smallest) chub to TH. A few other fish lost, two possibly barbel but didn’t get a visual. Still, a pretty good day in those conditions.

Expensive for such a short stretch of river. Hard to move along bank as is very steep and slippery and blocked halfway along by branches.
