Fished bottom pool after talking to Don (excellent info) with 10mm pellet and feeder tactics. Had a barbel first cast and did not look back thanks again too Don and the Wye & Usk also. Canoes not too much of a problem.

All in all, a very satisfactory day. The weather was kind and the fish obliging. I was fortunate enough to make the acquaintance of one of the Lydbrook anglers the previous day and thanks to him for the pointers! Most enjoyable was the entertainment provided by the canoeists. 4 boats overturned in front of me whilst attempting to avoid the dead calf in the river! The water was only shallow so no harm done, the only damage being to their pride. All the fish were caught on pellet or corn. The barbel were both small, no more than 3lb and the chub were between 1/2 lb and 2lb. I look forward to returning when ther is more water on. A beautiful setting with some great sceic photo opportunities.

What a great day! On the bank 6:20am to find the river very low and I was unsure of where to fish. Found a deep-ish run and had one small barbel, a nice chub and a trout. Later Don arrived and made a suggestion on swim selection and after he left I took his advice and moved to a different pool. Wow, I'm glad I did! After 5 mins my rod rapped around and I was into a nice fish of around 6lbs which fought tremendously and was in gorgeous condition. After that I was on the edge of my seat all day as the bites where coming thick and fast. Had some really nice fish, no doubles but what a great day :) A fellow angler R is there today, hope you have a good one too! I re-booked for tomorrow!

6pm to 7.30pm - Freelined (1 fixed swan shot) luncheon meat in bottom pool by wading out. 6 chub, 1.5lbs to 3lb and 2 smallish barbel. The chub were stipping meat off small spring leaving meat on inside of spring, whilst retrieving this I brought to hand 3 W B Trout 8 to 12 inch long! I have never had this happen before but suggest a similar design wet fly!
7.30pm to 9.30pm - From bank, swimfeeder and large HB pellet, 2 more chub around 3 to 4lb and 4 barbel in 6 to 8lb size, then just as rain started a sizable eel which locked onto my pliers to long for my liking. Will de-slime kit in morning.

Fishing for brown trout. Too many canoe's disturbing the river. This does not seem a great beat for brown trout. No fish caught.

Nice Easy stretch of River. Unfortunately unfishable due to hundreds of canoes (all day) passing down stream at Wyebank.
If there were any fish they sure got scared off.

In complete contrast to my last visit when I had 24 barbel, both my friend and I didn't get a single bite all day. Very frustrating indeed!

Very shallow water but good bankside. Nice place to fish, huge amount of boats and I could of caught far more without them. All fish caught on feeder fished pellet.

I have never seen the river so low - there was so little water most of the canoes that came through ran aground at some point. Caught chub throughout the day, but barbel in fits and starts. Chub from 4lb to just under 6lb with most barbel in the 7 to 8lb range and one double. All the chub were caught on small ellipse pellets glued to the hair with a small open ended feeder filled with ground bait and micro pellets. Most of the barbel fell to 2 x 12ml pellets on the hair and micro pellets in a closed end feeder. Half were fished from the bank, but I eventually got half way across the river and trotted pellets with a small ledger and small pva mesh bags to find the fish. Used my 2 hardy marksman rods alternately - feeder and Avon with 12lb main line, 20lb micro braid hook links and size 10 hooks. As well as being low the water was warm enough to take a bath in - and more weed coming through than I can remember. A very tough day but still one of my favorite Wye and Usk beats.

Session finished early due to a thunder storm. Delighted to say my 7 year old son landed his first Wye Barbel of 4.8lb. Well done, proud of you son. We will be back some day.
