Fished late on, as I had made the trip, but the river was still quite thick although around 1' 6" so not massively high. Fantastic hatch of fly which eventually got the trout going.

River up a bit and again looking good, was expecting a little colour but that was good too. No salmon seen or touched though, even with a fish coming from Courtfield in the morning. Still a joy to fish the best bit of fly water I've found on the lower river. Many thanks again Don, will be back for another go soon.

I had two fresh fish this morning on fly Wyebank. Yellow flamethrower. perfect conditions, mild, water temp mid to high 50s, overcast, light westerly wind. est 12lb from lower crib and est 14lb from bottom pool. The water has held steady for 5 days now at 2" below summer level on the Lydbrook gauge and lots of it - a different place without weed backing it up and great to fish with fly.

An early session. Very cold early on, river steamimg for an hour or so after the sun got up. Started with a sinktip and larger fly, changed later on to a full floater and smaller fly. None of this made any difference. A beautiful morning however and no canoes before 11.40, some sort of record.

Came early to beat the canoes. Got 3 hours in before peace shattered. Nice morning's fishing.

Perfect evening, massive grannom hatch, fish full so not much activity. Getting the casting going better with all the practice I'm getting, but the salmon don't award points for artistic merit it would appear. I'll keep grafting away and hope for a stupid one.

Another late report from Wyebank. I caught 3 salmon on Allys shrimps size 8 barbless doubles, 2 around 9lbs consecutive casts, which could have been twins, after 9.15pm with otherĀ  fish rising as the first took and the last about 12lbs as light was fading and got it off about 10.25. 9's from above the rock 10-12yds upstream from Wyebank crib. I put that rock there in 1994 and have now caught half a dozen fish from it over the last few years. I saw at least a dozen fish and an awesome hatch of small olives like I haven't seen for years coming down like flotillas of minute yachts. Very very exciting all round - in fact amazing evening.

A very late feedback from Wyebank
Caught my first salmon from Wyebank this morning est 14lbs on size 10 double barbless green highlander in Wyebank run, upstream from the crib.
The river bed is smothered in sedimentation and a fair bit of filamentous algae on the Wyebank crib looking "very healthy"!
Very large hatches of grannom since Friday. This morning every square metre of water surface over the shallows had between 2 and 4 grannom.

1 small trout to a tube fly and a brief run from a larger fish on a devon minnow. May well have been a pike. Thanks to Don for advice, will be back.
