On way to see booked rods saw large pike chasing fish in shallows by 30mph exit sign, rushed home for rod! Second cast with large spoon (about 40yrs old) hooked and after a great splashing scrap in shallows brought to feet a 42/43 inch pike (26/28lbs?), unhooked in water.

River now 1ft above last week BUT temperature 9 inch below surface was 23degC, several dead barbel seen last few days so what chance a salmon to recover even on catch and release?

A hot day with a thunderstorm thrown in, a lot of weed continually coming down the river made it difficult to get to grips with the fishing. Really liked the beat and river keeper very helpful. One rod managed two nice barbel and would certainly fish it again.

A good day spoilt by a HEAVY thunder storm, early evening.
Fishing in the wood into dark the fish had just began to bite when down came the rain (much needed) and along came the thunder and lightening away went the tackle!
Sad end to another GREAT week on the Wye in difficult condition's.

One of the hottest days of the year, most of the day was spent trying to keep cool and hydrated! However; the evening fishing around the cribs was really enjoyable and I managed to catch a very nice barbel of 8lb 12oz, a stunning fish. A really nice beat and would fish it again.

We liked the beat; first time on it. The fishing was hard going, conditions very difficult and few fish caught.

A disappointing return to a beat myself and fellow "danglers" visited in the summer of 2012. Lack of water and weather conditions dictated the performance of the beat. 8mm halibut pellets were the key to a average day on a beat with a good history for us.

The 3 of us booked Courtfield and were looking forward to a long weekends fishing. However things went from bad to worse, only one fish caught and the changeable weather made things worse. Our only issue with this beat is that there are not many fishable swims and the banks are almost impossible to tackle in the wet.

River very low fished normal pellet and feeder tactics as always on this stretch, fished in every swim for the entire courtfield stretch only to have two 3lb Eels at midday on first day. After walking the river and seeing a lot of fish spawning decided to fish first couple of swims on Courtfield section from Wyebanks end. I free lined bread and after a bit of perseverance had a 4ld chub quickly followed by a 5lb 7oz lump followed by another eel of at least 2lb. Will try and book again when we have more water in the river. Both morning saw salmon topping in the meadow section.

Having fished the wye for a few years now we expected to catch even though the river was VERY low and clear with bright sunshine, but we only had 1 barbel of 6lb and 1 chub both on 8mm halibut pellet.
