Following on from yesterday's trip to Wyebank, my son (10) and I shared a rod on the next day on Courtfield. A 4.30am alarm call saw us settled in my favourite swim in the woods on Courtfield, (where I'd enjoyed a good day the previous Monday 19 June). However, action was somewhat slower than I'd expected - the odd chubby rattle on the tip now and then, but nothing developing. An hour or so in, we had a very modest chub - about a pound - followed by another a half hour or so later. Then it happened, the tip rattled, rattled again and then heaved right over and junior was in to a decent fish that swam low and slow. Taking his dad's instructions well, he brought the fish slowly towards the waiting net, only to have it rush off again in to the current. Second time of asking, we netted it and having given the fish a really good rest, we weighed it at 8lb 4oz. Another long rest before the fish swam off strongly, junior beaming from ear to ear.
Next cast and dad's turn with the rod, this time the culprit being a 5lb chub - lovely! The start of the feeding spell? No, turned out to be the last action for some time, so weighing up the long drive back to Oxford and a river rapidly filling up with canoes, we decided to head home.
All fish came to paste wrapped halibut pellets, either 14mm (singles) or 8mm (multiples, 2 or 3).
Thanks once again to WUF and Don Macer-Wright. What a brilliant couple of days.

A little cooler than the previous few days on a river still low . The 3 off us headed for the wood section and struggled to get the barbel to feed. We did manage to winkle out 5 between us with one of us catching 3 of them . Not that this bothered one of our group whose only bite of the day produced a barbel of 10lb 6oz . All fish caught on feeder and pellets or boilies.

Nice cooler day after the earlier heatwave. First trip of the year and whilst river low the conditions were perfect and the fishing as good as normal. Some much appreciated bank work has been done with overhanging branches cut back which made life much easier - thanks to whoever did that. Eels, canoeists and other slimy things were around in numbers but all generally well behaved except one large school party that decided to stop and re-group right in front of me - "how's the fishing?" called out one of the teachers - I bit my lip hard.

Many thanks WUF, cracking day. Looking forward to the next one.

Weather conditions tough but fish fed right throughout, even in the middle of the day! Very strange in the very hot bright weather, had to pack up around 7 pm, just too much hot weather! But a great day in all, thanks WUF for a great day even though it was hot.
So sorry to gripe but some idiots were jumping out of their canoes and swimming down the river. Are they stupid or what? Don't they realise how dangerous rivers are? I know living next to the lower Severn and Warwickshire Avon! But I told a few and just abuse back! Someone tell these idiots please! They are just stupid, no life jackets either!
