An excellent beat - all the best features of the Usk in one, relatively, small stretch. The water level was on the low side (0.69), however the riffles and 'pocket water' proved the most productive. Only three fish in the net but plenty more on, albeit briefly. Very few risers and all fish and takes came to bead head nymphs fished on the Euro rig. A splendid day on the river.

No fish caught. Squally weather and water coloured. Not a nice day to be out.
We appreciated the call from the fishery owner and hope that we catch tomorrow. A good lunch and warm welcome at Chainbridge Inn.

The expected moderation in the heat didn't materialise. Fish rising up to midday then went quiet. Couldn't stay for the evening but well worth the trip. River height slightly down but also slightly brown after rain on Wednesday night. Had a trout swim though my legs but couldn't persuade it onto a fly.

Nothing to the net but there were trout rising first thing then the sun put them down. We had to leave before 5 and so missed the evening rise which would have been prolific.
The beat now has more access than what is shown on the map- the owner was very helpful and described what is now accessible.
Great set up with the parking and pub. Definitely another beat to re-visit.
