Arrived at dawn after very early start. River 0.7m and falling. Carrying too much colour for fly but persevered anyway. Fished hard for 8 hrs punctuated by a delightful kip on the bank at halftime.
Saw 4 fish in total on Rock and 12 in total below the bridge various sizes and hues.(one 20lb below cables) Mostly runners I suspect.Got drenched 3 times and river held its colour. Had a beautiful 11/2lb brownie at end ,safely returned. Prospects excellent for tomorrow . Go gettum Gary!

Very pleasant late evening fishing. Not much activity fishing wood stream. Water .43m and as clear as it gets. Fished team of size 14 spiders with no takes. John had similar experience.
Reverted to dry deer hair sedge 14 at tail of Chine pool and landeca nice three quarter pounder at 9.
Moved to below rock at 9.15 and fished sedge until 10.15. Hooked a large fish in excess of 2lb below rock at 10 tweeking thesedge across current on downstream and across cast. Fish tore off downstream and broke the 3lb line. Disappointing.
John hooked and lost one decent fish on single partridge and orange spider at top pool.
Went quiet at 10.15.

River a little muddied due to heavy rain the night before but it was fishable. Level was a little over summer level. Not my favourite of beats on the Usk as its more suited to salmon fishing I think with some large deep pools . This should only be fished for trout when levels are very low as much of it is not very suited to trout fishing. Had some success fishing downstream spiders in shallower water. There was a lot of rising fish in the slow moving pools but unfortunately no luck probably down to clumsy presentation. One thing to note the water did clear quite quickly through the day.

Started at 7:45pm John went to top beat and put a salmon fly through fast water above rock while I fished a small rubber shad through Rock pool. I have great deal of confidence in these shads having caught a 9lber on one last trip. At 9:30 the trout started to rise throughout the pool. I changed to the trout rod and rose and missed 4. John went down to wood stream at 8:30 and landed 3 and lost 2 on spiders. A change to a dry jingler at 9pm resulted in 5 more landed 3 more lost. Best fish landed was about 1:5lb, but 2 larger ones lost. Several salmon showed in Rock pool

Took a guest for evening fishing for trout. River just under 0.5m and temp 27 deg. Not much going on so fished sub surface until the rise with variety of nymphs with no takes,
Gabe, my guest fished some of his ancient patterns with no success either.
He tied on a huge mayfly and landed a three quarter pound fish from the head of the rock which was returned.
I had no success below rock using a variety of normally dependable dry patterns such as White and grey wulff. CDC and deer hair sedge to no avail.
Water temperature was tepid so guess fish were less than ready to take. Disappointing. Finished at 22.15
