A good days fishing on a good beat. 12 barbel, 7 Chub & 2 Dace. This is one of our favorite beats but swans are a curse here as they love to dig up blanket weed that constantly wraps around the line making fishing very difficult. When the swans have a rest the fish seem to oblige. One Salmon angler and guide on the other bank waded out to within 20 feet of me and then said I wont be here long. What happened to the half way rule? or does that only apply to course anglers?

Perfect weather conditions cloudy and not too hot, we fished with cage feeders and fishmeal pellets hair rigged or banded, either method worked just as well. Biggest barbel around 7lb and biggest club around 3lb.
The knotted ropes which have been installed to aid getting up and down the banks were a godsend for two ageing anglers

This is a very nice part of the wye set in beautiful part of country side.

The day was very windy, flow of the river fast. We all fished on the inside. It was nice too see new ropes on the banks especially for M H. The fishing was a bit harder here but still had a few, M H, 14 chub again all on pellets as for S G 1 barbel and 5 chub. S M, 2 barbel, 1 chub. The barbel here are in excellent condition, a 9lb barbel fights like a steam train. We well be back.

Forgot to mention at Fownhope we saw two otters, one with a good size chub in its mouth. Good for us fisherman to see that.

Just a couple of chub & few eels from mid-beat. Water level low which may have been a factor.

Started fishing at 11.15 but cut short by medication issue at 2.00pm, so not quite 3 hours fishing, probably at least promising part of the day, the car temp gauge saying 33 degrees on the way home.
Fishing was however good, the river was low, had a tinge of colour and some blanket weed coming down. Fished straight 1/2oz lead which was holding bottom a third to half way across.
Started on sweetcorn and then halibut pellet and had kno0cks/taps on both, but no real takers. After an hour and a half switched to garlic meat and first cast the tip jagged round and a 2lb eel graced the net, Further proper bites on meat saw a further eel landed, about half the size of the previous one. I was sorry to leave as bites were coming thick and fast.
Another great day on this fantastic beat. Only downsides for the day were navigating the deep ruts into the field in a non-4x4 car, and the 2 tractors cutting the grass and bankside vegetation on the far bank - it needed doing but just broke the peace and serenity that usually prevails.
Looking forward to a quick return
