We arrived at 8:30am and decided to fish the far end downstream of the car park, I got a barbel 1st cast using my split cane rod best fight ever. David had 2 chub straight away fishing the island pegs, then it went quiet. We both caught chub after lunchtime at a regular rate but the barbel weren't playing. Then at about 4'ish we had moved to the straight run just as we've not really fished that properly, I then had a rod wrenching bite which resulted in a 9lbs 8oz barbel in great nick. David then resorted to using smelly cheese which got him a couple more chub and a barbel of about 3lbs. The beat looked in good shape. I love this beat not only for the catching but the solitude. Most fish were caught on elips pellets and smelly cheese. Thanks WUF be back soon.

If you went fishing and "bagged up" each and every time, then it possibly wouldn't be as enjoyable. It's all about the unknown. Fished the Lucky Stone peg previously at the back end of July 2020 and bagged up. Filled with the same level of expectancy, I was fishing it again, but on this occasion without the same level of luck. Water was towing through a bit, with the extra 1ft of water on.

Weather for the day was perfect for fishing. Warm and breezy, and dry for the past few days; dry ground under foot for the walk through the woods (not as treacherous this time), with river levels dropping off of the earlier weeks highs (level as of 7:00am 7th Sept 2020, showing 0.78m high @ the Mordiford station).

Fished 5hr session from 7.00am - 12:00pm, fishing a pellet, hemp and groundbait feeder (varying sizes 2oz - 4oz in holding bottom) with banded 10mm pellets on the hook. Whilst not prolific, caught and lost 2nr barbel to hook pulls early on, before final landing a chub (3lb) and a barbel (5lb); latter half of the session, nothing doing. Packed up and headed off home.

Walk back to the car park however, was much easier, with less weight to carry, in losing 11nr feeders and numerous hooks to submerged boulders, in the swim.

Nonetheless, a most enjoyable day to be "out and about" in the countryside, and without getting wet.

Will be back soon.

Tight lines all.
