First time on this beat. Travelling light was good advice. I was the only angler on the beat and fished pretty much every swim over the course of the day. Beautiful day, started at dawn with the mist hanging over the river and fields, rested in the heat of the day and started again around 4pm. Classic Wye Valley beat with plenty of wildlife, a handful of canoeists and wild swimmers all of whom seem unable to enjoy the river noiselessly. Irritating but no more. Only two fish today, but they were worth every penny.

The river was still carrying extra water after the rain earlier in the week. This is a really attractive looking section of river and access is straightforward. It would have been really peaceful too had it not been for the man with the petrol strimmer in the National Trust property opposite who put in a long shift.
Fished a variety of swims and found that there were lots of snags throughout. Having not lost much kit in the previous two days, I became something of a tackle dealer's dream today.
Fish were caught from all of the pegs we tried with Barbel to 8.5lb. The highlight of the day though was an enormous Chub which weighed in at exactly 6lb.

River up from recent rains and pushing through at a pace, all baits/methods tried but with limited success. Only one small barbel and a sprinkling of Chub between us. Lovely to be out on the bank in such a beautiful place.

Bright and sunny conditions after midweek rain had pushed the level up. River was very coloured at start of session with visibility down to a few murky brown inches. This improved as the day wore on and the level contined to drop. We had twelve good chub all on flavoured or standard luncheon meet though we did try the ubiquitous pellet. This is a lovely stretch of the Wye, will be back when it is running clear.
