We love Fownhope 5, even if it half kills us getting into the woods. Stu had 3 Barbel, with a beautiful double included. He also had 8 chub too. Simon had 8 chub of all sizes, fishing the lucky stone. This has become a tackle graveyard. I actually lost a tackle shop of feeders and hook links. I am thinking the riverbed has changed recently, maybe after the recent high waters. I have fished this swim for years now, and this is the worst it has ever been. Such is wild fishing. I broke the tip of my rod too, to make my day even better, grrrr. We will be back asap, and we will keep coming back too.
Cheers W&U for allowing us to fish this great stretch.
By the way, two people poaching in the top field, and once again using villagers rights as an excuse.
This seems to happen regularly. Bloomin stinkin hot day, but the river looked great.

Second day on this tranquil beat and despite the bank holiday there was not too much boat traffic and those who did pass were all courteous once they were aware of somebody fishing.A slow day in the heat but still very enjoyable with feeder and pellet being the method.

Day one. I fished top end and caught 3 Barbel on meat and boilies. Lost 3, including one at the net! Some nice chub too.
My mate fished the bottom end and had one Barbel and a couple of chub.
This is a beautiful beat that is very quiet, very few walkers and canoes. There is a nasty electric fence upstream of the orchard that limits access to the wooded area, but to be honest there is only one swim in the woods and its bordering on unfishable, definitely not worth the hassle!

Well what can I say , the weather just gets better and better . Fished here many times it is one of my favourites, the view of the rapids on the left hand side is a feast for the eyes . I particularly love this beat for the trotting, trotting for chub here is the best I’ve experienced on the Wye , doesn’t get any better ! I had a great day here as usual , such a shame to leave after a brilliant weekend , looking forward to my next visit .
