Chub took over today. Hard to get any Barbel. They switched on later in the day. Can’t complain with 33 Chub over 3lb and one 5lber. Barbel bites were very finicky. Met Colin and had a good chat - he keeps the fishery brilliantly maintained - thx

Very slow day, river still an odd brown colour with visibility down to about a foot.
Only 2 barbel but both were 9lb + which was a bonus. Both from a lovely looking run right at the far end of the beat
Odd couple of walkers decided to sit right behind us then one of them went to go for a swim in our swim until he was advised that wasn't a good idea!
Loads of salmon seen all day and I think this stretch is paying salmon fishing prices for course fishing which I'm not sure is worth it in the end. Nice stretch though but at twice as much as other wye and Usk stretches probably won't revisit this one. Was great being able to drive the full length right on the river bank

Second day on MHC and similar conditions. Managed to catch 3 barbel but just feel there's something not quite right at the moment. It was suggested that the algae may be having an affect on the lack of barbel being caught when compared with previous years.

River slightly high with lots of loose streamer weed coming down, fishing once again very slow with two barbel caught to DC, cage feeders and 8 mm pellets used by both anglers.
Some very large branches were coming down river all day causing some tackle to be lost

Another tough day but worked so hard and roamed. Located the fish towards the end of the day and it was very rewarding after a couple of tough days. A beautiful stretch albeit spoiled a little by canoeists beaching and having picnics and throwing sticks in for their dogs adjacent to us fishing.

I was slightly concerned that reports from this beat so far this year were down on last year and the reports of a major snag/tree in the lower pool. I ended up having an enjoyable, but somewhat frustrating day. Weather was warm, but mostly overcast. I fished from the bottom coy from 12:30 - 21:00 and caught steadily all day. The frustration was that I lost so many fish to hook pulls and only just managed to come out on top. 10 barbel landed and 9 lost to hook pulls. The swim is very heavily weeded, particularly down the near side and all the fish were lost as they got into the thick weed. I think that the snag referred to as a tree in other reports, is in fact very thick weed. As fish got held up in the weed, they appeared to be able to twist themselves off the hook. I fished a pellet feeder all day and didn't loose a single feeder or break off on a fish. The barbel were a very mixed size with a few of around one pound, a couple around 3lb, a couple more around 5lb and two at 7lb.
I found the fish in the faster water, fishing at about 45 degrees downstream, 3/4 of the way across. Used 12lb mainline with a 10lb coated braid hook length.
I'm not sure whether the stretch is fished only through the WUF, but I had to clear the peg of litter, which included luncheon meat tin lids. Very disappointing that anglers can leave such a mess.
Other fish were one chub and one small eel
