A lovely day on How Caple Court where we were greeted by a very chatty Game Keeper. We caught a few Chub, a lovely 20 lb Pike and a 10 lb 2 oz Barbel.

A lot of river at this venue but very few swims, those that exist are opposite the gardens of the National Trust property. Only seemed to be one downstream of the boathouse - this is the swim I fished. Note that I didn’t walk to the very end of the fishery but most of the way.
Biggest barbel was 9lb & two 8lb. All fish in excellent condition.
Started fishing across to the far side and had a barbel fish cast. Very snaggy though. Ended up fishing mid river.
All fish caught on two 6mm pellets glued to the hair with a PVA bag of pellet attached.
Fishing interrupted twice for over an hour each time when an otter appeared. The fish eventually came back though.

Had a very pleasant day on the river with my daily workout carrying far too much gear over the hill to the bottom of the beat, beating my way through to the river’s edge & sliding down the bank (should have added a machete to my gear);Getting back up the slippy banks was a piecemeal job. Tried 4 different swims which all went quiet after an hour or two. One beauty of a chub just over 6....shame they come in like lambs, unlike the barbel that give their all.
Met A again, all the way down from Suffolk & it was good to ‘chew the fat’ with him again & was able to help him with the landing net & camera at last knockings , with a fantastic barbel just a few ounces short of being a double. Perfect end to the day.
Don’t those hedge flails make a lot of noise!
There was very large salmon playing in the pool just above the hut.
Thanks to all.

Hard day for Barbel, but at least the Chub were active. Fished in the three main swims at the top of the beat, ending up at the hut. Plenty of Chub but only 2 Barbel takes. First one managed to snag me, the second caught on my "one last cast" weighed in at 9lb 3oz. Good to catch up the "A.B. from Hereford" again, he's right the Hedge Flails are very noisy!!!

fished the legg meadow , usual pellet/feeder combo .barbel were 6 and 8 lb, but the star of the show was a 6lb 4oz chub
which is a pb on the wye for me. Its a lovely place to fish, nice and peaceful , plenty of wildlife to keep you occupied, but I would comment that whilst access is easy at the pumping station it can only take two cars although a bit further along
you can park on the verge (one car) but its not ideal . We did talk to Don and he explained the issues and efforts are being made to improve parking. The swims are (during lowish water conditions)down steep banks and when wet quite slippery and for those of us of more "mature " years , you would need a team of sherpas to get up and down the bank. that said, there are a couple of swims in the meadow that are just about fishable for the older gent...... will certainly try it again.
