Started at the pylon bend and first barbel was a 9.04 gem, then nothing for the next 3 hours so moved to the top end of the beat just d/stream of the rapids. Had a couple of chub but no barbel so returned to the pylon mid afternoon and had the last three fish in the last 2 hours.
Pellets ledgered with PVA bags was the method.

It was hard going as river still dropping after the weekend dropped from 4 metres down to 1. Started on float in a few different spots but it was still too pacy even with meat so hit the feeder earlier than normal as not many canoes around. Took 15 minutes to get the 1st bite which was a lovely Barbel of 6.5 lbs, when connected it just held out in the current and i couldnt move it, incredible power of these fish. I ended up with 5 barbel and 3 chub, one of which was a PB at 5lb, the Wye was very kind to me again, lovely stretch onan amazing river.

A cracking two days . The beat looked stunning with the Autumnal colours starting to show , along with frequent flypasts from Kingfishers . We fished four of the swims catching Barbel in three of them . In total we landed 8 barbel to 9lbs 3oz with a number of 7lbers , and a cracking Chub at 5lbs 13ozs alongside two minnows ????. The Deer in the meadow late evening were the icing on the cake .

Not our first visit to this beat so easily found. Mostly we fished the swims downstream of the centre tree line. It was an odd sort of day, there were fish to be caught but the bites were sporadic at best. One angler in a downstream swim managed to catch five barbel (with two lost) whilst another fished the swim just down from the tree line for 2 barbel and 2 chub. Most of the rods did a bit of moving around.... but getting a spot to fish consistently proved tricky. The level of the river seemed good, I'd hoped for a bit more colour in the water (it was clearing rapidly as we were fishing). Overhead it was generally sunny with an occasional overcast spell, perhaps the fishing replicated this a little. Whatever, it was certainly not our worst day on the river... and to spend a few hours in a place as picturesque is always time well spent.
