First time on the beat. Pretty section of the Wye however water still low from previous weeks heatwave. Late start and
an early finish resulting in no fish caught. Frustrated with conditions, low water, 4 anglers on opposite bank.

S had the best day 10 barbel to 8lbs and a chub of 4.8lbs. As with most of the beats low and clear conditions made fishing difficult. Please be aware but dispite the last field being used for camping all summer the local farmer takes a dim view of walking 70 yards from the river bank to access the road with our tackle. As the two anglers were 67 years old it seems the farmers attitude to walking in and out the gate was a little extreme.
Booking Office Note : Landowners have every right to take a dim view if access instructions are being ignored. Fisheries can be (and have been) withdrawn from the Passport scheme when anglers have not adhered to the instructions given. This is something WUF and anglers want to avoid.
There are fisheries where riverside parking is allowed and some where vehicles can be driven the length of the beat. Anglers are advised to call the Booking Office for advice.

Went with my 11 year old lad as a treat before starting secondary school. Day was nice an overcast, but the river was very low and clear. We concentrated on the lower end of the beat, where the flow is concentrated on the near side. Junior started well with a nice 6lb barbel on meat, but the swim then went quiet, so we moved... that set a bit of a pattern for what was a sketchy kind of day, we'd get a bite (and sometimes land it!) in a swim, but then it would die off and we'd have to move again. Eventually we established three swims which we rotated, feeding them as we left for the next one. Towards 6pm or so, the fishing got a little better and we managed to get two or three bites in a swim before having to move. We ended up with 5 barbel (one of which was a "baby", the others regular shoal size) and 1 decent chub of 4lb. Dad was left rueing what might have been, having lost an epic battle with a fish that weeded itself three times, but was subsequently moved with successive combinations of slack line and then steady pressure, only for the reel to malfunction and seize! It may have been the monster we were seeking but we'll never know. An enjoyable day all the same in stunning surroundings. Stayed down the road at The Falcon House, not for the first time and undoubtedly not for the last either, a lovely establishment run by very nice people and a great breakfast to boot....

Nearly all fish taken on Pellet & Groundbait feeder tactics.
Best Barbel 9lb 4ozs
The 'other' fish was a monster eel taken on Luncheon Meat that was guessed to weigh about 3 1/2 lb.
If only some of the larger vegetation( ie tree branches)could be cut back this would provide access to some other likely looking swims.
