2 Barbel, 4 Chub

The river was low and clear and, despite being overcast it was a hot and humid. Fished the downstream (field) stretch morning and afternoon (4 chub; 3 Barbel). We then fished the orchard stretch first thing in the evening (1 chub), before returning to the lower stretch for the last hour of fishing (2 barbel). Largest fish: chub 4.5 lb; barbel 9lb.

Fished 6pm to 9pm six pristine barbel biggest 9lbs all caught on pellet feeder.

River conditions - water level very low, little bit coloured.
Method used- ledgered, bait used - 2 x 8mm halibut pellet

I am not sure whether this is is relevant.
I have seen male American mink with little roach or chub in it's mouth running along the river bank.

Barbel caught from amongst the weed off the concrete. 2 eels one of which was large 3 to 4lb.
Pump going as usual ! Level very low as expected. all fish were rested and swam off strongly.

Pleased with the catch given the hot and sunny weather and a low river. Fish were taken on meat and pellet from the faster and presumably better oxygenated water.

Last of 3 days fishing on the wye & Usk Foundation and First visit to Thomas wood,
Well done on doing an adult & child ticket, as most beats don’t!!! The river was up again, and had a tinge of colour, so a bit more confident than the previous 2 days. Peter the fishery manager came not long after we arrived, and was more than helpful, showing us around the fishery, seemed very passionate about his job, and I could tell he was really hoping we might catch a barbel or 2! Unfortunately we didn’t,but still had an enjoyable day, my lad had 5 dace whilst doing some trotting, and the last hour as it was getting dark we had 2 chub each with a pb for my lad of 3lb 6 oz he was over the moon and that’s what it is all about,this is a beautiful stretch, and as described, I would recommend the wooded stretch a bit more pace, a lot of canoes but no problem, I would come back to this beat!
