Struggled at first a lot of canoes going past. When they finally stopped used feeder and cheesy garlic pellets for the barbel and some chub. Also trotted pellet for some of the bigger chub of the day.

My first time on this beat. A really enjoyable day albeit the weather sunny and the river low. I feel I have unfinished business and will definitely be back! Fish caught on feeder and pellet from various pegs in the bottom half.

Conditions at the moment were always going to make the fishing tough and so it was. Tried a number of swims and methods before a nice fish of around 8lb fell to feeder tactics.

A long walk over the hill and we fished the Lucky Stone Swim. One chub immediately and then a frustrating several hours with huge rafts of floating weed coming down making fishing virtually impossible. On the way back we fished the swim by the house and garden and lost a barbel in the weed. We packed up early as a result.

All fish caught on pellet , barbel showing most of the day in the ‘going swim’ 2 barbel lost due to someone’s old snagged line left in swim (2/3rds across river ) . River very low and slow moving , hard going but lovely stretch.

Arrived in the late afternoon. Considered not going as the weather was very hot and bright. River conditions low and clear. Saw two large salmon dead in the Rapids. Fished half hearted as we knew the fish were already struggling. Due to go to another beat the following day but cut our loses for the sake of the fish.
