Had tried to fish this beat last summer but due to low river conditions and streamer weed unable On our return found a very different river snow melt had the river up but did catch 3 chub to around 4lb.

Our first time on Fownhope and we arrived to find the river very high, fast and cold.

Having made a long journey we decided to give it a go with "Somehope" but not surprisingly struggled and only managed to catch just one good Chub just shy of 5lb and 3 small ones in the 8oz bracket.

But no complaints from us after reading the efforts of M.W. of Stalybridge on March 3rd...That must have been a nightmare of a trek in the snow to catch a Chub...but demonstrates the passion some coarse anglers have for fishing on the Wye. Bravo guys!!

Two chub to red maggot feeder, very wet day, rising river. Very muddy, land owner ground workers with jcb made it worse around car park area, everyone on the beat left before dusk, conditions were getting dodgy for getting up the hill through the field off the fishery, very muddy.

Just me fishing. Water temprature at 3.5 wasn't expecting too much. Fished the slack water at the first downstream swim and had 2 chub ..
Various baits tried but a very smelly cheese paste did the trick. River very high and coloured.
Fishing the Wye all week and staying at the Falcon House B&B at How Caple. Stayed there many times.
Can't recommend it enough along with the excellant food at the Moon pub at Mordiford.

With the water Tempratue at 2.5c and ice in the fringes I new it was going to be hard going and so it was. Not a bite all day.

After the recent bad weather, we decided to try and get down to the river, got the van stuck in the snow several times and had to dig it out. Started to think we should have listen to the weather warnings and not travel! Many hours later we did get down to the river and it was worth the effort just to see such a beautiful stretch of river. We fished for a couple of hours without a bite, before we made the couple of miles walk back to where we left the van stuck in the snow and ready to do some more digging.
