What a beautiful fishery and river, I love this part of the world! However, it was a bit of a tough day, but we managed to grab a few using feeder tactics and either 14mm Pellet on the hook or two 8mm Cheesy Garlic Pellets.

Water looked good but could only tempt 2 barbel. The larger (6lb) had a slightly deformed spine, a deformity I have seen in several barbel throughout the South of England as well as on the Wye . I have no idea what causes it.

River has a good level and flow. The barbel fed early and late, first fish coming to the first cast of the day from the section upstream of the wood, then the other 5 coming in the last 3 hours from the 1st field downstream of the wood. Chub caught at various times during day.
All fish caught on either pellet or 12mm boilee ledgered with PVA bags of pellet.
Best barbel was 9lb and best chub was 4lb 2oz. Very enjoyable day.

River looked in fine fettle but the fishing was perhaps below par. Falling and a little too clear? Brother had three nice Barbel and I only managed a small chub but a switch to a stick float and maggots brought plenty of 'hand-sized' dace in the afternoon.

A beautiful stretch of river with plenty of swims to choose from. Still a nice day out though.

Nice level in the river, which was about 30cm up on the summer average, I was fishing feeder and pellet with various baits, no fish but lost at least 6 feeders, might be better when you can wade with a float and a moving bait rather than a static one.
