Despite a grey sky and some occasional driving rain Middle Hill Court always remains beautiful and spectacular.
The water level was extremely high and worryingly cold but looked fishable which clearly makes this a popular Autumn venue. We enjoyed some steady sport throughout the day and managed to catch 5 Barbel and 9 Chub all of which were a good size and fought hard. The best Barbel was a touch over 7lb and the pick of the Chub was 5lb 8oz.
Swims are limited on this venue which is a shame because when the water level is high there would only appear to be 2 or 3 swims available which naturally is going to put a lot of pressure on them and and make fishing more difficult as the season progresses.

Tough day on this lovely stretch of the wye . On the day of the local fun ride so we saw lots of riders along the bank. River was about 5 foot up and carrying some colour so should have been good for barbel. Could just about hold the far bank with 3 oz but lost hooklength to snags. We caught no barbel on meat or pellet but had 8 nice chub to meat - many of them under the bank which was nice. Don't know how the salmon anglers got on - we only saw a couple (salmon)crashing about. We were on beat 5 but wish we had explored further downstream.

Standing on Foy Bridge bracing a cold northerly wind staring down at a fast moving river was not exactly what we were hoping for in mid September when we booked the beat a few months ago....but fishing the Wye often presents challenges and quite clearly this was going to be one of them.
Heavy feeder was the only real option and we were delighted to catch 3 Barbel and 3 Chub between us which exceeded our limited expectations.
It was also a pleasure to meet the owner of the beat Charles who clearly makes the effort to maintain this delightful venue and we look forward to visiting it again soon.

Great day but fishing slow, probably due to the influx of colder water.
