First ever session on the Wye. Had a baby barbel of about a pound first cast and another followed shortly after. Then nothing throughout the day despite fishing hard and exploring multiple swims along the length of the fishery. Whilst not catching i did enjoy spotting 10 kingfishers, 3 salmon and an RAF Nimrod fly by. Later on lots of bats and owl calls. Last hour had a small chublet then right on last knockings had my first proper Wye barbel, a lovely long fish of about 8llbs. Hard work but chuffed.

fished top of the section all morning with no bites,we then moved to the lower section and found some fish in the deeper faster water nearside, falling to meat i had my pb fish of 10lb exactly was well chuffed then my mate beat that with an 11lb fish!enjoyed our day here although due to river conditions it was hard going most of the time,we couldnt get a bite on anything other than meat.also had a problem with a salmon angler in mid river casting to our water!!although he did move when asked nicely!

Fished two days on Courtfield. Nice beat overall, over the road just behind you is very noisy. Caught number of fish from different swims through out the day. fishing 3 years on they Wye I was never controlled to check what hooks or bait am I using, which is wrong. Found a few barbed hooks on the banks and in fish'es mouths including some on what must have been a 6lb line!!

10 Barbel
