Lovely venue with some beautiful scenery. The fishing was hectic all day with so many chub it was difficult to get through to the barbel. All the chub were over 3lbs and the barbel were 6lb 14oz, 8lb 3oz and 8lb 10oz. All fish took pellets on a mix of straight lead and feeder tactics. The only disappointment was the lower end of the fishery which was pretty much unfishable without a saw, stimmer and a weeks work.

weather forecast, showed cloudy , wrong ! very bright ,started bottom end with big lumps of spam , rolled round tail end of faster water , 3 old warrior chub ( residents haha) made it a enjoyable hour, moved back over bridge, 2nd swim , water very shallow , new approach today due to frequent canoe'rs 3oz lead in the flow half way over , chub and barbel to 3lbs .
ran the float through after wading out with corn and banded pellet ... 1 chub and 1 frantic trout ....and then the party started 2 groups of people chose the swims either side of me to ,swim, paddle splash, throw sticks for their dogs, screaming kids and I was treated to a hour+ of banging , house and garage tunes from a radio or player of some sorts .... also 2 pitbull type dogs crashed down into my swim trampling over my rod led up in the reeds, snapping the tip on my fox kevlar rod (£25 to replace) .. I do not expect this when paying £26.00 to fish !! good days fishing marred by people paying nothing to access the water ...... think will give this a miss untill the colder weather arrives ?
WUF Note: Unfortunately public access can be an issue along nearly all of the Wye, especially in summer months. This is often exacerbated during school holidays.

Delighted to have finally fished this stunning river and it really is just that. Sadly I'm disappointed to have chosen to fish it on a Saturday,in height of the holiday season. Fished the early pegs at the top of the beat , pleased a 2oz feeder held perfectly and not a single one lost to a snag, fished inside line , middle and far bank . Being restricted on time ,I didn't have the option the fish the last few hours, a real shame. I will definitely be back to this beat in quieter conditions, I think you know where I'm going with that.

Conditions far from ideal with bright sunshine all day. All fish taken on pellet feeder and pellet dumbells. Fish taken intermittently throughout the day with no prolonged feeding period. Thankfully the abundance of wildlife kept us busy.
Anglers note when fishing for barbel please use appropriate end tackle to handle the fish. Caught a 8lb barbel with a size 16 hook and 4lb line wrapped through and around it's gills. Hook had a hair attached so being used for either boilies or pellets.... Hook and line safely removed and I am constantly seeing this as feature on this river.
WUF Note: Many thanks for looking out for the welfare of the fish.

Day four at Howcaple and the best of the trip ten barbel with best fish at 8lb 4oz used pellet and boilies over the four days and found both caught as well as the other , i think you should use what ever you have faith in , avoided meat as i did not want tackle tangling Eels ,if you make your first visit to this fishery bring stout tackle 1.75lb rod (mine is a harrison Dark carbon built by mark Tunley superb action ) minimum 10lb line and strong hooks make no mistake these barbel fight hard ,had the best fight ever from a 7lb fish which if i had lost would have been convinced it was a double or a salmon .my only concern on this on other beats i have fished more safe access needs to be made to swims not platforms but steps and flat area to fish from + ropes to avoid an accident with out spoiling wild feel of these lovely fisheries we need some input with owners .

we arrived to find the river very low at the creel this was our first time on this beat, the banks were dangerous and swims were very limited only one set of steps at the start of the beat. From a health & safety aspect this is not good we had 1 barbel & 2 chub very unlikely we will return here as anglers safety appears to be very low on the wye & usks agenda
