Decent day's fishing although had to move twice due to the opposite bank having anglers turn up to fish directly opposite me !!! Ended up with 4 barbel and 5 chub

4 Barbel, 5 Chub

The weather was bright and sunny and the river was about a foot higher than when we fished this stretch around the same time last year. Between the two of us we had 40 chub in the 2-5 pound range and 2 barbel that were about 5 pounds each. Most of the fish were taken on the float (waggler) on either 8mm pellets or bread mainly from swims on the left bank, the bottom two swims producing the majority of the fish. The first swim below the bridge on the right bank did produce one of the barbel and 3 chub.

2 Barbel, 40 Chub

We had a great day on the Wye again but fishing was slow. The river looked good but unfortunately the barbel would not play so chub were the only fish caught despite trying a few swims. We fished until dark but it made no difference. Still a great venue and after all it is called fishing not catching. Thanks Wye Usk will be back. MH Standish.

5 Chub

Two rods, a hard day in perfect conditions. Just one of those days. Handful of chub and barbel, but tough going.

1 Barbel, 5 Chub

Lovely morning and late afternoon sessions. A dozen each of barbel and chub to one rod. This beat has very challenging access to the water over most of the length. The banks are steep/shear in many places, with undercut sections. Use caution. Not recommended for the less able or less experienced angler.

Caught all fish on meat, inc. 1 eel, weather good, river at normal levels.

2 Barbel, 11 Chub, 1 Other

Another great day on the Wye. We started in a swim that's been kind before and it started well with good barbel action until they backed off a bit so a longer cast got a couple more until they totally switched off. The army of chub then took over and it was crazy action with bites coming as soon as we touched bottom.
We decided to move and try to find a few more barbel and so upped tackle and went for a completely new area. This paid off with another six barbel and no chub.
Today's wildlife included long tailed tits and a very close encounter with a kingfisher going at full speed being chased by another.

The potato field in full bloom looked nice too.

Pulled even more himalayan balsam there seems no end of the bloody stuff

Beautiful day on beautiful water. Excellent beats, well managed and maintained. A nice catch of barbel and chub, with a couple of ten pounders. Highly recommended. Lots of grilse bouncing through, and a few coloured up residents on show. Millstone was full of grilse.
