The river was fining down and a little too deep for wading so we were confined to 4 or 5 pegs all of which looked interesting with variations in current, creases and eddies. Most people will prefer the top swim, although we caught fish on all the pegs. We fished with an in line method feeder and medium sized drilled halibut pellets on a hair rig. It was a memorable day with constant action with near perfect conditions. My only word of warning to roving anglers is that only one bank of this beat is fishable and this is just a long field, approx 1/4 mile long, so a more appropriate description should be single bank fishing of approx 1/4 mile!

This was the first of two days on this stretch. Unfortunately didn't start fishing until about 17:30 but no canoeists which was obviously an advantage. The weather was foul, heavy rain with a very slight rise in the river level. It was a little above normal levels but substantially higher than last year. It was also rather coloured but not a chocolate colour just dirty. Fished the bottom pool with feeders, homemade boilies and pellets and landed several small chub and barbel. A couple of the barbel touching the 7lb mark.

An improved river faced us on arrival after the huge disappointment of opening day. We arrived at dawn and decided on trying the meadow stretch first as had heard good reports through the week. We went to the pipe swim and it looked perfect. We fished for an hour and no bites were forthcoming. So, as many say, if you don't catch in the first hour, move on. So we decided to move to the woods section. We saw a car there so decided to go to the bottom end of the fishery and fished approximately 50 yards downstream from the steps near the willow tree. This proved to be a good move as we got in to Barbel straight away with a few chub in between. The good fishing continued for a few hours. We also lost a few large fish to snags. Biggest landed was just over 8lbs.
Unfortunately the fishing slowed up with the arrival of the Kayaks. Normally you put up with them and expect many on a weekend, but long story short, today's bunch were by far the worst I have ever witnessed ever. Rude, ignorant, total disregard for anglers, capsizing kayaks in front of us, water fights in front of us and one guy shouting very serious threatening profanities at me (In front of my son) when I asked his wife politely to watch out for our lines. In all honesty this lot put us off fishing the wye again, but I'm sure we'll return. The kayak hire companies should give out far better advice. Respect everyone on the river please.
After they were all gone, and amazingly we stuck it out, the Barbel came back on the feed and we landed another one and lost a couple. Unfortunately the heavens well and truly opened and the extremity of the rain forced us to retire with the evening approaching.
Great fishing at times spoilt by some true idiots (And the good old British weather)

This is a really nice stretch of water, exactly how I like to see the Wye, lots of shallow gravel runs and islands. I had a good feeling about this place. I fished beat 3 which is only a little walk from the Boat Inn. Lots of cattle in the field behind that would occasionally make a charge through the field so beware! I used normal barbel tactics, pellet and feeder/pva etc. Didn't catch loads of fish but was happy to catch a nice chub just short of 5lb and a barbel at 7lb. Lovely venue, I enjoyed fishing here.

No barbel, just a small chub and an eel from the woods, couldn't access the swims downstream due to fallen trees. Not much choice of swims now that 6 anglers can fish, and got threatened to be "shut up" when a canoe thought that capsizing in my swim would be fun... Not a good day for us.
Owner Note: The whole top length of Legg meadow has been opened up providing a good dozen swims, they have been strimmed out and below the wood at the metal steps there are another 12 or more swims and through the wood, half a dozen more.

Nice to be out on the river again. River is still coloured. Due to heavy afternoon rain fished only until 15:00. Managed to catch 1 Chub. Pellet and feeder method.

The loss of Boy's Rocks is very sad, especially as one can still be annoyed by the Vaga cottage dogs' incessant barking when a walker passes from anywhere within half a mile!
Canoes were frequent but polite and the river was running slightly coloured. Having arrived at about 11 am we were too late for the barbels' morning feed and had to wait until about 6pm for a fish, all of which were in long and lean condition after spawning. All fish fell to double pellet, including a pretty large eel, fished in the fastest water we could find.
Lost a fair amount of tackle in the heavy weed / rocks and found parking near the bridge trickier than normal due to the huge pile of rubbish some scumbag has dumped.
