This beat was a must for me as I'd heard such good reviews, this was the first session of my trip and it didn't disappoint. Stunning backdrop to the left downstream! Not far to the river from the car park with good access to the bank and plenty of swims. Not much was happening in the morning but by midday things picked up. Unfortunately I had to leave to check into my accommodation mid afternoon, missing out on some good fishing. The biggest fish was 8lb. I'll definitely be back here this year to have a full days fishing. Great venue!

River levels very high for summer, approximately 1.6m at start of day and then dropping very slowly; - water coloured.
Fished opposite the Weir Gardens, but this is a very long walk from the car park, even when carrying the minimum of gear. Taking a tackle box plus accessories, would make it an SAS route march. However, access to the swims at the water's edge was easy.
Even though the river levels were high and the river was pushing through very fast, caught a personal best barbel of 9lb 3oz. My brother, who had never fished for barbel before, caught a 7lb 8oz barbel. He also lost what was probably a very large carp, but we never saw the fish. Also had a 3ib 1oz chub.

Fished from the crack of dawn until 9-30am when the amount of water coming through forced a hasty retreat. Managed six Barbel and lost a load of feeders. This is a great beat but needs to be fished at normal summer levels.

The river was up, fast and coloured with a fair amount of debris coming through including some large branches and logs which took me out several times during the day. Levels slowly rose a further 15cm and the pace and colour increased in the afternoon. Fishing close in to find slacker water was the only option and, fortunately, the fish agreed with bites coming in batches of 2 or 3 at regular intervals. Pellets were the only bait tried with a 4oz feeder still struggling to hold bottom. As usual all the fish were immaculate and fit. The largest chub just topped 5lb and the largest barbel was 9-04.
Absolutely brilliant day - even the relatively small number of canoeists were courteous and careful. An otter popped up by my rod tip and gave me an evil stare but the usual wildlife, including a frequently passing kingfisher largely ignored me.
Thanks WUF. See you again soon.

The river was in flood and heavily coloured but levels were just starting to come down. We fished the lower beat but a lot of the pegs were unfishable with difficulty in holding the bottom when you did manage to find a suitable place to fish.
We did manage 3 Barbel to 5lb and 3 Chub to 3lb on pellet so not a complete disaster.

First day of a 5 day break on the Wye for 2 of us and joined by a friend for today. The most successful day of our trip in terms of numbers caught, from a river slightly up and coloured. After driving 175 miles in the rain it stopped shortly after we arrived and we settled into swims upstream of the parking area . 1 rod caught 13 barbel, 1 caught 8 barbel and 2 chub and the other caught 4 barbel . The best barbel was 7lb 15oz and all were caught on variations of the pellet and open ended feeder approach .

We arrived at the car parking area on this beat to find some low life had fly tipped a large amount of waste. With regards to the fishing this beat has always come up trumps for us and 12 barbel to 9lb 15oz and two chub were a good return. however,we must fully support the anglers who had to clear swims before they started, this beat has limited swims especially with the loss of Boys rock. Some work should have been done as from a health and safety point of view the banks were extremely dangerous not only for the anglers but also for the safe return of the the fish. This is now an overpriced beat and the Wye & Usk need to up their game to ensure safety after all there are few swims that you can fish.
