What a lovely beat. The barbel were a little slow on the uptake (or perhaps it was the angler!), but who cares - spent a large part of the day trotting small baits and filling my boots with chub and dace - the numbers are guess work - I wasn't counting but for the most part it was a fish a trot. Some of the chub were nice fish 3lb to 4lb plus plenty of chublets. One nice barbel on the float and then one on pellet in the gloaming.

Lots of canoes today, carried on the same tactics as previous day, pellet and feeder. Not too many fish but an enjoyable day.

An early misty start broken by a noisy arrival of 3 fisherman who were dropped off in a transit van opposite the wooded area and commenced fishing, was not long before they were into Barbel.
JY and I started at the upper end of the beat, nothing at all so moved down to the lower section for the afternoon, a lot more successful, 6 barbel, 5 chub and a sea trout all taken on pellet.
A stunning stretch of the river and will definitely try to head back again in the future.

Second day on the Fishery, learnt again not to fish the same swims. Another very hot clear day. Because of limited swims we decided to only fish the morning. River is low, needs a flush through. Only 1 Barbel and 4 Chub to feeder method on Pellet. Thanks to the Wye and Usk for four days great fishing.

Despite the bright conditions, DW 9 barbel all on pellet DS 3 Barbel and 4 chub on boilie. DS had lots of chublets on stick float looking good for the future stocks. Weed a bit of a problem coming down the river.
We have spent 4 days fishing Wye and Usk Foundation water, 2 at Lower Carrots and 2 at White House. Have enjoyed every day on this lovely river. For accommodation we stayed at the Falcon House B&B at How Caple which we highly recommend. For evening meal we went to The Moon at Mordiford which have a good menu at reasonable prices and serve food up to 9 which is handy for the evening session.

A combination of bright sunshine, numerous swans, canoes and cattle contributed to several periods of disruption throughout a challenging day. The river appeared to be in fine condition, with a hint of colour, but we again found that appearances can be deceptive, with the presence of weed also creating some difficulties.
The warm sunny weather remained comfortable for us fishermen throughout the day but that meant it was less conducive to deceiving our piscatorial quarry. Despite our best efforts, rewards were limited to some small Chub and a young Barbel of 1lb 12oz, although it's great to see the next generation of fish looking so healthy. (One person seen fishing on the opposite bank, and several cormorants were unfortunately very active along the stretch).
Overall, a great day was enjoyed on the river, commemorating BP’s retirement and birthday in fine style, with the scenery and wildlife providing a wonderful backdrop.

After a lovely mornings canoe trip down the Wye in the morning mist (I know anglers on the Wye despise canoeists much of the time but I enjoy both sports - rivers aren't just for fishermen to enjoy!!) with my dad we got to the river a little later than planned. I stuck it out on pellet this time and managed a ludicrously hard fighting barbel of just under 8lb on pellet. My dad didn't have the patience so kept switiching back to smaller baits where he had a lot of fun catching smaller chub up to 1lb and dace with a couple of bleak thrown in for good measure. Another lovely stretch of river. Around sun set a few rats appeared nosing though the undergrowth which was a good reminder not to leave left over bait which attracts them and also for all fishermen/women to be aware of the risks of Weils disease caught from rat urine - remember to wash your hands before eating or sucking your thumb!
