Unfortunately no fish caught. not even any discernible 'knocks' until late eve. The fish just weren't there! Never mind. Lovely beat though.

Arrived at crack of dawn, on what looked like promise of a great days fishing. Beat and swims excellent, and weather appeared to be in our favour. However by mid morning with no bites or fish it soon turned into a real slog. We tried most of swims but to no avail, couldn't even see a fish let alone catch one. Mid afternoon M.B. managed to catch 2 eels but unfortunately that was all. Worked our way back up beat to see if late afternoon/early evening produced, but still no luck, and finally called it a day at about 7.30pm as we were booked onto another beat following day. Plenty of salmon and trout rising and jumping and no problems with canoe traffic. A cracking beat that we want to try again.

Great day on the Wye, a tough walk to the far end of beat with the hill climb in the middle so minimal gear would help. Fish mainly on pellet feeder some chub on bread. Caught from several swims on the lower two thirds, didn't get to fish the top part. Many thanks WUF.

Arrived about lunchtime and decided against using car parks suggested as notices said they would close at 3pm and 8pm respectively. A local (very excited about the egret on the opposite bank) did say they stayed open. The entrance to the fishery is along the road a little way from the downstream car park and it looks as though a few cars could fit inside - why can't we park there?
The fishery is a beautiful short stretch in a deep valley where the flow is very pacy and enhanced by the croys. The path is very narrow and rocky in places but with such a short stretch does not matter.
The river was alive with barbel though some of them small. Best fish of our 20 or so was 7lb. Caught on 8mm halibut pellet mostly but had fish on pellets up to 20mm and meat. Fed 4mm pellet and hemp through a black cap feeder with no extra lead. Tried trotting for chub but no success.
Lots of canoes during the day with various dramas including capsizes but did not put off the barbel. I think it was a branch that was partly sunken that caused the problems and some welcome humour.

Fished from 07:00 until 19:00. Took all the fish on pellet from the far bank margins on feeder. Great setting. Caught up with Colin, who is as always provided useful info on how and where to get those extra fish. Fabulous day. Will definitely be back.
