River started to rise about 2pm after a blank morning. Continuous rafts of weed came down so for the sake of sanity packed up about 6pm after having to move back up the shingle bank at the Pylons swim several times as the river rose. One barbel and lots of lost tackle. Fishing opposite bank (Upper Holme Lacey) tomorrow without much anticipation.

First time fishing this beat the water was low & clear but caught fish in fast water that fell to ledgered pellet later in the day in total 9 barbel between 2-7lb & 4 chub were landed. A nice beat to fish but not many swims when water is low also leaving the beat through the gate onto the road can be very dodgy you have been warned!!

Fished lower beat in fast water opposite Island but it could not get a bite on luncheon meat or pellet from early a.m.to late a.m. I think I need another crack at this venue looking at recent catches on trotted bread flake in slower water on other side of the river..

We were only able to fish for a few hours in the morning. There were lots of young canoeists who were impeccably behaved. This was in marked contrast to the 50 year old we encountered the previous day, trailing a spinner through every salmon pool, who seemed determined to re-enact "Deliverance". If the canoe companies want to avoid unpleasant conflicts they should tell canoeists that they must not take fishing rods with them. The occasional EA checks on whether canoeists with fishing rods actually have licences wouldn't go amiss either.
WUF Note: If you encounter this type of activity, please report it immediately to EA's emergency line 0800 80 70 60. However frustrating reporting incidents can be, the more they are reported, the more likely the EA are to allocate their enforcement resources.

Thrashed out a couple of swims in the jungle at top end of beat. Fish weren't really on it all day - a bit of action after 4pm but generally slow. River low.

Fished Wye for the first time. River low and very clear, weather was hot with some cloud at times through the day. Fished from 7.30 a.m to 3 p.m. but I could not get a bite all day on the lower part of the beat opposite the white & yellow house on far bank. The swim looked ok with a few feet depth of water in front of me. Used feeder with pellet bait & tried luncheon meat on the hook also. Moved to upper section just above the orchard and started to get bites off far bank to luncheon meat from about 5 p.m. but still no bites or proper takes. Very disapointing and I hope the Creel gives up some fish to me tomorrow.

Started off trotting luncheon through fast water by the side of the island and had three chub in half hour all about 3lb. Then the canoes came, one after the other for 5 hours so switched to feeder and picked up 5 more with the biggest two 5lb. Moved to top of beat for last knocks and picked up a lovely barbel nudging 10lb. Lovely beat if you can tolerate the canoes and the huge amount of weed that follows them. Saw a few huge carp in the slower water late on. Also two eels the one about 3lb, the other about 1.5lb.

Amazing evenings fishing. Arrived at 1pm but decided not to bother setting up due to the number of canoes. With the river being so low swims were limited because of boat traffic but finally started fishing about 5pm. Bait was hemp and ellipse pellet, I fished for 4 hours and had a take on every cast. I caught 22 and lost severel more. had 4 fish around 8-9lb the rest averaging between 2-5lb. Fantastic river when you can find these barbel.
