First time on this beat. And unfortunately did disappoint. Water level at its lowest all week changing weather and humid after the heat wave. Tried 3 swims but only managed 3 Chub, biggest 3lb and an eel. Tried floating. Usual baits hair rigged also rolling meat. Pub lunch at the Inn on the Wye then back for afternoon and evening fishing. Most canoeing persons were well mannered and having. fun. Unfortunately a group of Romanians decided to cause trouble whilst with the hired canoes. Causing damage to fishing tackle and wanting confrontation. It was very deliberate. Again today no Barbel. Third day on the trot no Barbel.

Some of the best float fishing ever in terms of average weight of fish. All chub over 4 with a handful over five, all on the float, from the top end in the fast water. No real access so had to fight through the bushes and then wade back down the river. But the effort is massively worth it. Even managed a bonus barbel, great fishing. Interestingly all the chub hiding under the bush we caught were males full of milt, so probably not even the bigger females, 2 anglers previous day there were 4 of us.

This was our first trip to the Wye hoping to catch a Barbel. Relatively inexperienced when it comes to rivers but fish alot of still waters so hard to say if our returns were down to inexperience or fishing conditions.

All 4 anglers fished the sheep drink swim as this was the only spot we could all get in. Water level looked low but a few fish showed as we arrived. 3 chub averaging around 3-4 lb were caught on the feeder using pellets and luncheon meat. We also took a bonus pike of around 8lb which took a pellet on the retrieve and somehow stayed on.
