Just one barbel around 6lb landed but a real good barbel lost in a ferocious fight. Very little action and the river looking badly in need of a flush of fresh water. Even the chublets were quiet. Still... the potential to land decent fish is still there for those willing to give it a go.

The river was very low and clear but with a bit of effort and some previous swim knowledge we managed to land 12 barbel to 9lb and 4 chub between the 2 of us. I also lost 2 good barbel. We had a great days fishing. The only disappointment was the amount of discarded fishing line and litter on some of the pegs. There was also evidence of camp fires. We cleared up what we could but on one particular peg, there was a large black bin bag in the trees full of beer cans and other rubbish. Those people responsible are a disgrace to the sport and ruin the river for other people. They do not deserve the privilege of fishing such a great river. If you are reading this, you people know who you are....disgrace!

Hot and sunny conditions. A good beat with varied water type. Productive for one angler (me!) but not for others.

A and son J today and they started on the first croy on the feeder catching 2 Chub early. After a long biteless period, they decided to move downstream opposite the Lugg mouth, hoping the faster water would produce. A caught nothing to add to his earlier fish but son J who we've decided would catch a Barbel in a cup of Tea got a late fish on pellet and a Chub on luncheon meat.
All in all I don't quite know what to make of this beat, we were a bit disappointed that we saw nobody over the four days that may have been able to give us some info on swims etc. On reflection I think we got the best out of this beat that we could, P certainly proved the float could produce.

Water very low and clear but not much boat traffic thank god! Caught all fish on pellet and groundbait feeder thoughout the day. Most barbel on small side (2/4lb) but best was 9lb 6oz. Chub to 4lb and 2 good sized eels, good to meet Don again - his help is second to none.

I started on the float between two croys without any luck. Swapped to the feeder and had a barbel 1st cast on pellet, then a 5.13lb chub on meat.
By now my son had 4 barbel. He went onto to finish with 11 and a chub, not bad for his first visit to the Wye. I had to settle for 3 barbel and 3 chub. All the barbel were small, not surprising given the depth of water we were fishing in. Had a nice chat as always with Don.

Tough day but we managed a few. This was the last of five trips I had booked on Courtfield this year, but I might try and squeeze another in towards the end of October if we get mild weather. A good year though all things considered with plenty of big barbel and chub caught despite less than ideal conditions for a lot of the Summer. Great beat, a lovely bit of river. I will return!

Fished from dawn til dusk. River level was low but water was clear. Sunny hot conditions made fishing difficult. Caught chub to 5lb but the day was topped off with a 9lb barbel..nice small beat only 2 swims were fishable. A lot of snags so lost a few feeders but overall enjoyed the day. 3 car park spaces right next to the swim.
