We both fished by the orchard, it was a warm but overcast day. The river was at summer level but we fished a comfortable position and was able to cast to the far side. It started off slow then a couple of hours into it we starter to catch some nice barbel to almost 8lbs, with the odd chub to around 4lbs.
What a fantastic part of the river, so good we have booked to go at the beginning of October.
The Usk and Wye Foundation have always given a great service with booking on the internet. Thanks.

An wonderful day's fishing. Barbel fed throughout the day resulting in 9 being landed, sizes from 5lb to 9.5lb and one beauty at 11lb. The bigger fish came on in the evening. All caught on pellet/meat. River had a bit of colour and levels whilst low, were not too bad. One problem however are the anglers fishing the opposite bank. A long gully on the WUF side holds the fish and the anglers on the opposite bank cast across the river right in to the swims cut by WUF making life a bit annoying from time to time. The opposite bank anglers have a very long stretch, can they be asked not to fish into the handful of swims cut out by WUF? Needs sorting out as shouting across the river is not very relaxing.
WUF note - Unfortunately anglers from the opposite bank cannot be stopped casting across to the near bank. General rules and angling courtesy dictate that should an angler be occupying a swim, other anglers on the opposite bank must chose a different location. Unfortunately this is not a written rule.

Really difficult day on a river desperately in need of rain.
Fished 12 hours, all the barbel to one angler on pellet.
Hopefully levels will be up when I return next month.

River in good condition, plenty of available swims for those who look. A disappointing day but managed a couple of nice barbel and a decent chub. Also landed, after a hard fight, 1 gudgeon taken on double boilie on a size 4 hook to 12lb link. Yeah, I haven't figured it out yet either...!

Largest barbel was 9lbs 6ozs and the biggest chub was 4lbs 11ozs. All fish were caught on various combinations of feeder fished pellet. Very enjoyable day.
Note for WUF: I read the report at Courtfield for Thurs 4th Sept about an angler finding a discarded tin of sweetcorn etc. I can assure you that it wasn't us. The tins of sweetcorn we brought with us remained in the car for the four day visit and like the angler who posted the report we clear up not only our own litter but anything else we find in the swims we fish.

Was fishing here 7am-4pm on a sunny day. Water levels on the lower side. Nice stretch but didn't have much luck with only one small barbel from the beach section. Changed swims 5 times to try every part of the beat not to much luck. The water pump on and very loud for most of the time. Not sure who owns the opposite bank but there came 4 anglers in a van, sat all opposite myself, some fished two rods, some fished maggots which I thought was not allowed. Moved downstream only to see another lad on the opposite bank using a keepnet.

Well the fishing became very hard and the fish difficult to find. It was very much it was a week before.
Still a beautiful place to fish.

Thanks to the advice from Kenny Parsons, our guide for the previous 2 days, we had a fantastic days fishing with barbel to 7lb 4oz. There was no sign of the larger chub and our best was 3lb 8oz. The river level was down a little from the previous day and we both fished the bottom pool using halibut pellets on hairs with 90 gram cage feeders and pellets. The weather was bright but overcast and we caught all day from 8:00am to 7:00pm and lost only one feeder each. Not too many canoeists and they were all considerate.
We stayed at Ferndale House B&B which is about 2 minutes drive from the beat and can highly recommend their packed breakfasts, lunches and evening meals.
