On our first visit to The Creel, we were impressed with the setting and appearance of the beat but had difficulty in finding safe swims down the very steep banks. It appears not to be yet fully established as a coarse fishery and the places we fished would be dangerous in wet or high water conditions. It was a beautiful day, however and once fishing we enjoyed our catch of six barbel to eight pounds and a bag of lively chub and were amused by the comings and goings of the hundreds of Canada Geese. The wild side of the Wye at its best?

Weather overcast, with drizzle in the morning, sunny through afternoon. Wye was in good condition after recent rain, fishing excellent. 12 chub caught, all good size, four well over 5lb. Barbel were harder to find had to move around and eventually bagged one of 8lb.
All were caught on hair rigged halibut pellet with ground bait feeder. Fishing did die as bright conditions moved in. Fished 7am to 5pm. Very good days fishing and thanks to Terry for his sound Advice.

Another good afternoon on the Wye. Set up at about 3pm after a bit of an explore and settled for the Boys Rocks swim. Fished simple pellet/feeder tactics and saw plenty of action, two barbel to just over 10lb and three decent chub.
River was in good condition, not loads of accessible swims on this beat but enough to have a go at.

Arrived midday. Lot of carp showing but easily spooked due in part to very shallow water and in part to my cumbersome attempts to stalk and cast to feeding fish. Eventually landed a 9lb common carp. Beautiful fish in perfect condition. Fought very hard in the shallow water. Lost one other.

Had a good day, weather perfect in the morning, rain and drizzle, hot and sunny in the afternoon but still managed to catch all day. 10 barbel, 3 over 9lb, all caught on pellet feeder. A really nice beat, my only complaint, not enough swims. More need to be available to anglers if 3 or 4 turned up. Anyway, a great day it was a joy to watch loads of salmon jumping.
Just a word on accommodation. We stopped at the Inn on the Wye at £65 a night for 2. Good value.

Lovely stretch, very picturesque. Some nice but challenging swims on it. If approached right though they can produce few decent fish. Great maps, directions etc.

A fantastic day guiding 2 clients. The river was slightly up and coloured. The barbel fed well during the whole day. All caught on pellet and swim feeder. The largest barbel was 10lbs 11oz followed by a 9lber and a host of other great fighting fish. The barbel on this beat keep moving around so you need to find them. Clients thoroughly enjoyed.
