Low clear water conditions. Picture post card spot with church as back drop. Took fish late on pellet and feeder. Struggled all day exploring all the pegs. Owners came for a chat late in day and some good advice.

Lovely stretch of water that promised great things as my friend had a 7lb barbel first cast. Unfortunately it went down hill fast. Spent the next several hours thrashing the water into a foam trotting hemp and corn to no avail. Eventually had one small chub which encouraged another hour or so effort with no reward. My friend was now asleep! Eventually had two small barbel about 1.5lb on the float followed by a 7lber which was unfortunately foul hooked. No fun trying to get that in. Had a rest on the feeder and had a nice barbel about 7lb and that was it. My friend woke to reel in a 2lber on the feeder. I won't go into the detail of everything that went wrong but suffice to say it was not our finest hour. Will be back.

After a cold night it was slow through the day with most action in the evening. Lost a few in a sunken tree in front of me, amazing conditioned fish. Will be returning!

1 decent chub around 4lb caught late in the afternoon.
3 eels. Lots of very small dace and chub shoaling close in chased by jack pike.
The canoe traffic on the river from around 10am till about 5pm was continuous with occasional parties of 4 boats roped together with no consideration to avoid anyone fishing on either bank. Both our lines were rowed through a number of times, even fishing close in. With the exception of the canoes, which need addressing, it appears to be an excellent beat with cracking pegs throughout.

River low and despite trying many swims, where we had caught in the past, no fish were caught.
We were disappointed with the so called "new swims" created in the top field. Most were in very shallow areas and the minimum of work appeared to have been done. After canoeing this stretch I can suggest some far better areas to create access down the bank.
WUF note - Anglers are advised to look at the Beat Gallery on the beat page of the website to see the 15 different swims available. Whilst we understand the differing expectations from different anglers, these swims are not fishing platforms. Thick vegetation has been strimmed back to allow access to a large percentage of this beat that was previously inaccessible whilst retaining it's natural character.

Lovely mild to warm day, with frequent sunny spells and the river quite low but with a hint of colour to it. Fished the very last peg on the beat just upstream from the island rapids with the Courtfield Arms a few yards down the road using halibut paste on the hook and swim feeders full of 4mm pellets. Had no barbel but a total of eight chub, all in the 3.5lbs to 4.5lbs weight bracket. The canoe traffic, once it commenced, was horrendous. I haven't fished the Wye for many years and I was horrified, it was a continual procession throughout the whole day. It's too much and got to be at saturation point. To be fair it didn't seem to put the chub off feeding but it was a major distraction for me. I enjoyed the fishing but don't think I will ever contemplate fishing this stretch again on a weekend. It was like fishing on the side of a motorway.
