I had not fished this beat before and it was a pleasure to fish here. The river was very clear with a nice flow to it. A few barbel were caught along with some chub, all to pellet on the feeder. The canoes got a little tedious with little respect to anyone fishing! Many thanks to Don for allowing this stretch to be fished.

3 Barbel, 5 Chub

Arrived at 9.00am. The river was low and clear with only the 1st and last swims having a bit of flow in them.
We both started on the float for a couple of hours with a few small fish the only result. Tried feeder just in case they wanted a static bait but nothing. We both moved to the end peg and floated fished the same swim putting in plenty of bait, my fishing friend lost a good barbel at the net, but landed 2 and lost another, I lost 1 and had a chub of about 3lb. The barbel were just under 7lb and about 5. The rain came in the afternoon and we were a bit un-prepared so finished about 7pm.
I must reiterate a previous comment about the car access, in a standard saloon you will scrape the bottom of the car so be careful, otherwise a good beat.

2 Barbel, 1 Chub

Brought a good friend visiting from Cyprus to this stretch as the access is reasonable and it has fished well on my 2 previous visits.

On our arrival I could see that the river was a good 4 feet or so down on my previous visit in June. I decided to fish down from the rocks as we needed to stay together as he had not fished for some time and hoped to move to top end later for the evening when he was more confident. Unfortunately rain set in before we knew it so we decided to stay put in the hope of fish being more mobile due to the darker wet conditions and also the access to the other swims was getting very slippery to say the least. Sadly it was to be the quietest day that I have ever had on the Wye with no fish coming our way. Did try up near the rocks and under the pylons for a short time with meat but flow was very slow and banks were very slippery to be honest so did not really give it that long as rain just got quite hard as afternoon progressed. Got to take the rough with the smooth I suppose. Will wait for Autumn and a little more water before I return as exited as ever to fish this lovely stretch. Already looking forward to my next visit.

Very low water levels made the fishing extremely difficult. We started at the bottom end of the fishery and finished the day in the swims by the hut with only one small chub to show for our efforts.
A pleasant fishery which we are sure would produce plenty of fish in better conditions.

1 Chub

Day 2 of our trip. What a difference a day makes! Arrived at the river just after sun rise, although we didn't have enough rain the day before to affect the river conditions that much, we both felt a lot more confident about our chances. A cooler, over cast day with rain forecast for the afternoon. We tried 1 or 2 swims each giving them 1 hour before we both found a swim each that produced barbel throughout the day. The final score was a draw, 10 barbel 1 chub each. What a way for CB to spend his Birthday, and to top it off he had a phone call to say he got a new job. Definitely one to be remembered. Thank You WUF.

20 Barbel, 2 Chub

Arrived mid-day and started at the bottom end of the fishery for a couple of hours to no avail. Moved to the top section which coincided with heavens opening and staying open for the rest of the day. I've never seen the river this low and apart from the odd patch of blanket weed, where has all the weed gone on this stretch? The sound of a generator abstracting water kept us company for a few hours in the afternoon, and it was sad to see that swims we'd fished in previous seasons had all been washed away and not replaced, leaving only two fishable swims in the top section. My friend ended up with 4 eels and a lot of lost tackle (rocks) and I could only manage 2 barbel and 6 chub. Without a doubt, this was the worst day's fishing we've experienced on this wonderful river and somewhat concerned about the lack of any real weed growth on this stretch.
This used to be a favourite stretch of ours, but I'm afraid, no more.

2 Barbel, 6 Chub, 4 Other

Fished Foy Bridge on the Friday 1st Aug. River very low & weedy, very hard work. 2 bites all day catching one Barbel about 6 pounds. Fished Backney on the 2nd Aug, the river had more colour in it after some rain had only 2 bites all day catching 2 more Barbel again about the same size. At about 6.30pm, 2 ladys came, put their swimming gear on & started to swim right where I was fishing is this the norm?

Fished the middle section, the Marl Bed. Weather cooler than previous three days. Fished ledger on the far bank, 6 barbel, 5 to 7lbs. Banana boilies and sweat corn. Good day, black mink spotted opposite bank. Too many canoeist, wondered if we had paid for fishing or a gala event!

River was extremely low and the fishing was tough but the surroundings more than made up for it.
We caught five barbel to 8lb and two chub, all on pellets. The taxi service from the farm to the river by the farmer is highly recommended.
A beautiful stretch of river.

5 Barbel, 2 Chub

Day 1 of a 2 day trip. Arrived at the river for first light, knew from looking at the river levels online that we may be in for a tough day. Didn't get on the fish until around 10 o'clock. I had 3 barbel from 1 swim all around the 4lb mark, all falling to pellet feeder tactics. CB managed to winkle out a nice 4lb chub. Canoe traffic was a real problem, multiple groups of loud kids and few novices who couldn't even steer the things to avoid my line. A very tough day, would love to come back and give this beat another crack when there is a bit more water in the river.
