A hot day with a low river level. Unfortunately we didn't catch what we were after (Barbel) but were able to get some sport from small Chub (on maggot) and some fairly large eels on luncheon meat. Lovely spot. After our dawn start we decided that the day wouldn't get much better so retired to a pub rather than wait 'til dusk. May go back when conditions are move favourable.

First time on the stretch and a really nice looking fishery. Good access to the river. Fished the quicker water at the bottom and top of the beat to no avail. Trotting corn and ledgering pellet. Packed up about 4.00 pm. From looking at other feedback this may have been when bites would start but we had given it 9 hours and enough is enough. One bite to ledgered meat which turned out to be an eel.

Didn't set the world on fire with a huge bag of fish but a really enjoyable day as always on this delightful stretch. Had chub taking bread off the top which was fun. The 1lb eel on pellet was less entertaining!! First time I've seen coarse anglers on the far bank of this water which was a bit of a disappointment as it restricted access to some swims.
Managed to leave my chair in the middle car parking area in the field so if anyone finds it I'd appreciate an e mail via Wye and Usk.

Was hoping to get a friend his first Barbel, but the low river conditions made for a difficult day. He did manage 3 Chub to about 4lb though and I had two Barbel at around 4lb and 7lb 15oz. The place seemed to come alive just as it was time to pack up, with loads of fish coming up for a fly hatch.

I had 5 chub to around 4lbs they were all covered in argulus fish lice. Only fished to around lunch time. There was a lot of fish activity where they were crashing around as if trying to rid themselves of the fish lice but not feeding as well as one would have hoped.
The next day we were on the Lower Carrot and Luggsmouth Passport beat, where again there was a lot of fish activity, mainly barbel splashing about as if trying to rid themselves of fish lice.
With the very low water levels it seemed strange that there was a large agricultural water abstraction unit working at the point where the Lugg joins the Wye all the time we were there.
Thanks

River very low, needs some rain. Only two chub. Nice beat, the path along the old railway track needs a trim, the brambles can scratch the car. Will fish it again when there is a bit more water in the river thanks.

Our first time on the Wye, so we wasted a fair bit of time fishing swims that looked fishy but weren't. Eventually we found where the fish were and were happy with the results. River was lowish but with a little colour - downstream wind a bit of a nuisance. Barbel came to meat or pellet (around 7 lb each). Lovely spot and will certainly try this stretch again.

9lb 2oz Barbel caught on the lower beat in the large swim by the tree in the open field. Caught on 10mm halibut pellet wrapped in halibut paste, cast halfway out to the weed bed with 4, 6 and 10mm halibut pellets catapulted in the area. Hard days fishing as the river was so low and it was so bright but a magnificent fish caught. Happy days.
