As previous day on Courtfield the river was too low and the weather too hot, extremely difficult especially with the numbers of canoes and swimmers!! Fished the Saturday and Sunday morning for 1 chub about 3lb. It was good to meet Rudi and break the day chatting about fishing. He was very helpful, a really nice chap!!

First visit to The Creel. Lovely beat with a variety of water although we didn't get a look at the stretch with the campers as it looked a bit busy.
Bright sunshine and red hot all day made for hard work. Between us we managed 8 chub to 4lb and one small barbel.

The river was low and clear and it was a very warm day. In the hard conditions we had 3 barbel to 8 pounds and 2 chub to 4 pounds.

Another very hot but enjoyable day on the Wye.
We walked the river first to check out swims and try to spot fish. Once again, my friend saw some barbel first which were cleaning themselves off on a rocky shallow swim so we made that our main target area. We made a route through the vegetation to get slightly upstream of them and fished 10mm pellets with pellet loose feed via catapult. We had four barbel and a chub during the afternoon but we felt they were not feeding very well in the bright conditions.
We gave the swim a rest and tried the croy for a short while but no joy there, just chub knocks.
We returned to the previous swim and in the last hour before dusk we had six more barbel again sharing one rod taking turns between us. Checking your rig was not stuck in the rocks was important, a gentle lift up to make sure after each cast.
This stretch does have enough swims we thought. We travel light and sit on unhooking mats. The walk is short but does have a steep climb back to the car which is always easier when you have had a good day.

Fished using pellet in the midday sun, too hot, too bright. It didn't help having three people paddling there feet up steam of me. Couldn't fish any where else as the banks just too overgrown. So I went home. Shall try again some place else next time.

Tried a few swims but the barbel just didn't want to play. It was very hot again so the chub of maybe a pound was a lovely distraction on what, although not a great day for fishing, was a lovely day to just be out.

This was a bit of a grueller to say the least! The river was very low and clear with blazing sunshine. Also a family swimming in the river and a group messing about in a dinghy didn't help. Actually I was pretty pleased to eke out 3 barbel and 3 chub by moving swims and changing methods. Caught a barbel 1st cast, then didn't get any more until 7pm, after which most of the fish were caught.

Overlooked by Goodrich Castle this is a very picturesque venue in the Wye valley. Conditions for us were very bright and hot, 27 degrees.
We walked the stretch to begin with and spotted some barbel in a shallow run so fished for them on pellets, 10mm, with just a few freebies catapulted over. Two barbel and a chub in the first hour, around midday and then a quieter spell possibly due to boat traffic through the swim. Baited up a deeper run above the croy with hemp and pellets and fished that for an hour in the early evening but that didn't produce anything. Returned to the shallow water and had four more barbel in the last hour, best one being seven pounds.
Met the farmer who is a very nice chap, he was cutting the grass along the access track which is fine to drive down in summer conditions, just one badly rutted area which could be tricky if it was very wet. Kingfishers active all day and a few buzzards around too.

A bit disappointed to find a tractor/trailer and mini digger in the river from the opposite bank extracting shingle but they left shortly after arrival. Took a couple of hours before the first bite but we managed 2 barbel each which we were well pleased with given the weather.
