A lovely day on this equally lovely river. I caught two outstanding fish in beautiful spring sunshine; one chub of nigh on six pounds and a grayling just on the two pounds mark. I fished with a variety of baits in the same spot as the rest of the beat was still very muddy and the river still quite high. So a three shot paternoster with bread accounted for the chub whilst the grayling took a double maggot. Will come again but now it's on to the fly for me until summer.

Four decent barbel and a huge personal best chub of 6lb 2oz made the trip well worth while. Very happy! Straight 3oz lead tactics with pellet and boilie as bait and feed. All fish in fantastic, fighting fit condition. Back in June, can't wait!

First visit to this stretch. Thought I'd start at one end and work my way through the beat until I found the fish. Lots of well built swims on the beat, most with steps etc. unfortunately I started at the wrong end and didn't find fish until well into the afternoon. Had 5 chub from 3-5lb on feeder, and a 5lb barbel finally joined the party as it was getting dark. Would fish this beat again, especially as I know where to head now. Sun shining and fantastic scenery, couldn't wish for more.

If you decide to fish this beat, be aware of the long frustrating walk to the river. From the car park the swims opposite the weir garden are tantalising close but with no access you have to divert right & walk around the fields in a big square quadrupling your journey & it's a killer, especially on the way back! We fished further downstream today on pellet feeder & hook bait but again saw no fish or any activity and no bites, bumps or knocks. Very frustrating paying £20 per day and getting very little action. Decided to move back upstream opposite weir garden & pre-baited a swim with hemp & corn close in & just before dusk had 2 nice chub which fought well at 3lb 11oz and 3lb 12oz.

River fined down from recent floods with colour dropping out. Fished opposite weir garden but very quiet with no fish spotted all day. Tactics used were open end feeders filled with pellet & pellet hook bait. My fishing companion caught a barbel (5lb 6oz) which was to be his only fish of the day whilst I continually found snags & lost 3 feeders & a ledger. Decided to switch swims & 1st cast caught a 2lb chub but then started to snag again. The swims looked good with slow oxygenated water running round the outside of a bend but perhaps the fish have moved downstream into deeper, slower water? Very snaggy!

Having fished the Wyebank and Courtfield a few times we decided to have a look at the other side.
The track to the Youth hostel parking is interesting and requires care but is not a problem and the parking is fine. The Hostel seems to operate a cafe which is worth investigating further.
The walk up to the beat is not unpleasant and takes about 15 mins. There is plenty to go at, we walked to the top of the beat and even with the river a couple of ft over it was no problem finding swims. The banks are steep in places but easy enough to get down. In hindsight we should have fished fewer swims but with the bright sunshine and great company it just happened the way it did, the fish were a bonus. Great to catch up with Don. Looking forward to fishing this beat again in the summer, especially if the water is high.
