Another poor day on this beautiful stretch of water. Fished near the orchard and also in the lower meadow. A few small chub but no sign of the barbel anywhere. The weather was again very hot and the water level even lower than the previous Wednesday. It started to thunder in the distance about 8pm so it was prudent to start packing up and wonder where all the barbel had been hiding. I will return to fish again in the future and hope that the river levels are a little higher next time.

River very low zero on the Lucksall web cam.
Chub fed from the start, 31 between us. 7 Barbel towards the end of the day including my son's first Wye double.
Good to see Colin in fine health and form, thank you for your guidance.

Another lovely beat with some nice swims, unfortunately the fish didn't want to know. One barbel of about 3 pounds caught late on, maybe if we had stayed later we could have caught a few more, but after a full day in the heat, a few cold beers and a nice meal at the Greenman at Fownhope (highly recommended) seemed more appealing. Look forward to returning to this beat in more favourable conditions.

This was the hottest day of the year, and fishing conditions very difficult. Started at the far end where the track runs out, but with no action. The Bayliff recommended Rope Pool, where I did catch 1 Chub approx 3lb in the early hours. Will return in Sept, when the river is higher.

One barbel of 7lb caught at 5.30am, and a 3lb chub an hour later. The feeding spells in the heatwave seem to be restricted to a couple of hours at first light, and the same late in the evening. Time now for anglers to learn a rain dance move.

River extremely low and clear, weather very hot. 1 chub taken early on the tip in 18 inches of water. After that it was a struggle for even a bite. Tried trotting some corn but nothing doing. Lovely part of the river despite the walk.

Decided to start later and fish into the evening. Fished end of beat. Became rather hot when sun broke through. Caught barbel about 8lbs midday and a large eel late afternoon. Caught nothing further.
Thank you Adam for your helpful information and hope to meet you again. Another enjoyable day on the Wye. Thank you WUF.

Fished the wood section. 5 good chub caught to one rod. Some nice eels caught and small dace. No barbel which was due to the low river conditions. Lots of canoe traffic which did not help the fishing and we even had people swimming through our swims.

There is never a bad day on the Wye, but the low river and hot bright conditions are making it tough going. There were a couple of swims that produced the fish but one of them was very difficult to return the fish safely, so it took two of us, one in the water to land and unhook the fish safely, and one fishing. I drew the short straw and spent my time in the water, may be not so bad given the weather. I would just like to emphasise that in these conditions the fish welfare should come first and if you can't land and release the fish safely in a given swim, don't fish it!
