A very productive day, despite the scorching heat and the world and his dog being out in canoes! Over 30 barbel was far better than I expected, but a very pleasant surprise. River was low and clear, but with a very good flow all the way down the beat. Managed to find a spot under a tree so didn't get sun burnt, and started catching almost immediately. Started with fish in the 5-6lb range, progressed up to 8-9lbs and then hit the doubles - managed 6 in total, with the 2nd largest I have caught on the Wye and 4th largest on any river to date. All the barbel were caught with the same method - two 12ml elipse pellets glued to a hair on a size 10 hook. 20lb braid hooklink and 15lb mainline on my 1.75lb test curve Daiwa specialist barbel rod. Large flat-bed Drennan block-end feeder, with the holes widenend and 2, 3 and 4ml pellets on board. Although there are some snags I managed to find the clear sections and didn't lose a single feeder. And I have never seen so many canoes in my life, but in fairness they were all very respectful and conscientious of me being there. A great day and a great venue - I will be back, especially as I found a fabulous pub on the way back home!

Scorching hot day, so decided to fish morning and evening only to avoid canoes and sunburn. The morning session passed without the merest hint of a bite, but fared much better in the evening with 6 Barbel between us. All were over 6 lbs with the best fish exactly 9 lbs.

Thank you to the Wye & Usk Foundation for a super day at Pant y Llyn. The filming was a success, with plenty of carp caught and seen. The fish were on the top: a brace of wild carp was caught on floating bread, plus a brace of chub. A third carp was caught on luncheon meat on the bottom. The result of the filming will be a Fennel's Priory DVD, due for release by Christmas. Regards.

Fished from 5am to 1pm, and returned for 6pm to 9pm in order to avoid being fried during the hottest time of day. Caught 6 barbel to 7lb 14oz, all on pellets.

River low, found it hard to find the fish due to very warm weather. Great place, shame about the trek to get to the beat from the car park. 1 chub, 1 barbel, 4 eels.

Fantastic location, but a blazing hot day, river running low and slow. Some good swims cut into bank. Twelve hours, times two of solid fishing and only one bite. Caught one Chub with second cast of the day and then absolutely nothing. Other anglers in beats close by did not do any better. I can only put it down to the very hot and sunny conditions. Would I fish this beat again? The answer would be yes.

As we had fished this beat many times I didn't download the latest map so when we arrived we found that the Vanstone pool is now Salmon only which disappointed no end. Did manage 2 barbel. River very low and was a scorcher.
WUF note - It is essential that anglers consult their beat maps each time they book as occassionally boundaries and beat limits can change.

Awesome day on the Wye considering the bright hot conditions. My friend had never caught a barbel or chub before and that didn't last long! 8lb was the biggest fish of the day with lots of 6's and 7's. All taken on pellet or boiies.
