First time that I have fished Wyebank ...what a stunning stretch of the Wye. Fishing with my god-daughter Gemma on her first barbel trip. Started fishing at 10.30am and she caught her first barbel at 10.32am....about 4lbs and was absolutely thrilled. We continued to catch spasmodically over the day, finishing with 6 barbel to 10lbs 7oz...with several lost and 8 chub to 4lbs 8oz. Successful method was feeder-fished pellets. Very many thanks to Don Macer-Wright for his generous help and information. Needless to say Gemma wants to know when are we going barbel-fishing again!!!

Due to poor sport on the previous day, our group fished another day ticket water, this is by no means a reflection on Caradoc, and I am sure we will return there in the future.

My first time on this beat, which is very diverse, giving plenty of choice. I fished at the top end of the fishery, using pellet and feeder, with great results, twelve barbel up to almost nine pounds and one decent chub. I also lost three in a mid river snag, before I worked out how to avoid it. A great days fishing on a really nice stretch.

Fish were in a bit more of a feeding mood today. A total of 18 barbel and 2 chub were caught. 15 of the fish came from within the Wood and included fish of 10lb4oz and 10lb8oz and also a PB chub of 5lb3oz for the captor.
The other fish came off Legge Meadow and included a PB 10lb10oz barbel for its captor. Yet again groundbait/pellet was the winning combination but to be honest given the previuos days results, we were now concentrating on this method.

25 barbel best of 10lb 1Oz, 15 Chub to 5lb most caught on sweet corn, river low needs another 2ft of water. Nice venue, not enough swims as for the walk. You need SAS training, most fish came from swim by stone columns. Long walk to swims at upper limit.

Arrived about 10 ish, one salmon fisherman in action, at lunchtime he left and two more salmon anglers arrived, later in the afternoon another course angler arrived and then two men collected their pedalo (Yes I really mean in Pedalo!) from the bank and pedalled up stream. Quite a busy day. On the fishing side of things I caught 4 Chub, all good fish but not a sight or smell of the Barbel.
Thanks to WUF however for the beats that we can all choose.

A frustrating start to the days fishing with anglers fishing from the opposite bank wading out and casting up close to pegs on the How Caple Court stretch, who then insisted that 1 of the rods in our party could not fish his selected peg as the fisherman/"poacher" from the other bank was fishing it for the following reasons 1. it was to shallow on his side 2. he claims to pay £500 a year to fish his stretch!!! Attempted to contact Wye & Usk on the 01982 560 788 number but was unable to get an answer !!!!
A few Barbel & Chub did eventual show later in the day.
WUF could really do with providing a number that can be answered over the weekend so these sorts of incidents can be reported ASAP and assistance sought from the baliff of the stretch.

Morning was very slow again - same as previous day. However the evening improved somewhat. 9 barbel were caught with the best a 11lb7oz PB for its captor. Don had just turned up to check on our progress and witnessed the fish and added to his reputation of being a lucky charm on the stretch. 7 of the barbel were caught in Legge Meadow, the other 2 were caught in the Boat pool in the downstream half of the beat. Again, groundbait/pellet was the successful bait.
