After a fine week and a clearing and falling river we struggled, catching 10 barbel and the same number of chub between 4 of us. Best chub 4.5lbs. Best barbel 7lbs. All fish fell to the usual pellet feeder tactics with long periods of inaction in between. Lots of canoeists - some landed - though generally fine, apart from the group that came down in T formation - which was a little trying. Nevertheless another lovely day on the Wye.

Fished on my own (Dad couldn't make it) and had another excellent day. Started at the bottom of the beat (just before the mouth of the Lugg) and had half a dozen chub and two decent barbel before the swim went quiet. Took the advice of a very kind gentleman on the opposite bank and made a move and hit the jackpot! Non stop barbel of all sizes and a few chub for the next 4-5 hours. All fish caught on elipse pellets, very little success with the larger sizes, but 2x8ml glued to a hair rig with micro pellets in the feeder did the trick! Now I know where the 'hot spot' is I will be back very soon!

A and R had not fished the Wye for barbel before. Starting in the wood section produced about a bite on average every hour. 5 barbel were caught all between 5-7lbs . Three chub all about 2-3lbs. The fishing was not easy but they really did pull back in the strong current. A couple of fish were also lost on sharp rocks.
Moved up to the meadow later in the afternoon as we thought the fish might just feed later in the day. After about 1 hr, A caught a perfect 8lbs 15oz barbel and an hour later a beautiful barbel of 9lbs 2oz. R was soon back into the action with a fantastic looking barbel of 8lbs 4oz and a new pb. They had a couple of other smaller barbel so that was 10 for the day....oh and one eel.

Another lovely day out on the Wye fished a variety of swims and caught from all. All canoes polite and no trouble at all although one did capsize in front of us thankfully with no problems but why are they allowed out with no life jackets?!

Arrived at 0530 just as light was breaking, settled into
the woods Rocks swim and boshed in the usual
ground bait feeder of pellet mix that I know barbel
love. Well not this morning. Nothing doing at all. Gave it
4 hours and moved up to Legg Meadow with the same swim
feeder as I started with result.
First cast in swim 5 I think in Legg Meadow snagged and lost the feeder I had cast 20 times in the Rocks swim!
These fish in this stretch are under pressure there's no doubt about it, just look at the bookings it was only a matter of time until they got the hump. I gave it an hour or so then made tracks home for Sunday lunch. Waiting around all day for a seven pounder or two is madness. That is what seems to be happening of late. Try Wyebank before the winter temps set in, it's not been hammered like Courtfield.

Fished courtfield from 10am to 11pm. I W had 3 barbel between 5 & 8lb 2oz & 1 chub 4.5lb. All fish caught between 5 and 11 pm from Wood crib on meat and pellets. B H had 1 chub and a lovely river wye 10lb barbel. All fish caught on meat from Legg Meadow crib. Here's a nursery rhythm to remember when fishing courtfield, "if you go down in the woods today never mind the disguise it's terminal tackle you need". The place eats you alive but canoers can come in handy. Nice to speak to Don the owner as always. Check out the website Lower Wye Fishery, Wyebank and Courtfield.

Arrived with my friend at 7am and fished till 6pm. We tried halibut pellets, spice pellets, luncheon meat. We didn't catch any barbel. I caught just 1 chub. The hill is steep, but not very long and we didn't have any problem with that.
There is not much space for fishing. I would say just first 200 meters and even that is not good. I will never go back to this part of the river. I think you should not charge £15 but maybe £5 per day. My plan was, if we don't catch any barbel in few hours, we will move further, but where?!!Not happy with this.
At 5pm came two I think Polish speaking men. At 6pm came another two. I asked them if they going to fish over night. They said Yes. I think they were poachers. Because if there is no night fishing, why would they fished over night? Also they had cans of beers with them.
