Directions to the beat were clear and simple. On arrival we all walked the beat from top to bottom before we decided where to fish. On first impressions I was very annoyed, only four pegs at the top end available marked by wooden posts and the bottom end (rope area) two pegs available, with the whole bank being covered in nettles and brambles, access without a strimmer is dangerous and adventurous. After the initial thought of why did I travel 165 miles to fish this venue, by the end of the day, T managed to catch 10 barbel from one peg and C caught two barbel and several chud. I only managed one chub in the morning and my Dad struggled all day. I can honestly say I would not book this beat with so many rods as only two performed but I will look at other WUF waters.

A,J and K are fishing Wyebank this morning. P after problems with his car and the excessive heat of yesterday has decided to have a rest but has helped me into a swim in the woods to get a rest from the sun as it's shady all day here. Still very slippery but only fell over once! I had 4 Barbel to 7lbs, one about 2lbs which is nice to see plus 1 Chub. After a quietish morning on Wyebank A,J and K returned to Courtfield where J had a 7lbs 8oz fish and a Chub of 4lbs 5ozs, A 2 Barbel to 7lbs and a 3lb Chub, K failed to score but then he is very old! Bait was once again barrel boilies this time wrapped in Hinders blitz paste and feeder fished with 4mm feed pellet and Hinders Barbel groundbait. Big increase in canoe traffic today.

Beat:

River about 3ft over summer level and coloured, although it was dropping. Weather was glorious but not condusive to barbel fishing. We fished the lower end of the beat and access at this end of the beat is better than the top end. Its a flat walk from the car and we found a number of well defined swims. Fishing was tough, but we managed a few barbel and chub. My fishing buddy Old Man Nelson getting a cracking new PB of 8lb 12ozs.
The water below the beat boundary seems to be a popular swimming hole, so might be worth fishing the top end in hot weather!!

The river was dropping and the sun was shining. Fantastic beat. River still at about 3ft above summer level. My 11 year old son lost one barbel and caught one late on during the day of 8lbs 2oz. Once the sun was shining the river went dead, and the only thing I caught was the sun. Will be back as I am sure with a little cloud cover I can at least get one!

Not pleasant fishing conditions due to blistering heat, no cloud and little shade. Shared the lake with a bull and herd of cows but they seemed friendly enough. Several carp seeing cruising on arrival but most had disappeared by mid-late morning. Plenty of roach and rudd caught on the float. In the early afternoon I managed to hook a decent carp on floated bread and promptly lost it. Packed up early due to heat.

Beautiful venue this - I think it's worth pointing out that there is rather large but Docile Bull in the field that contains the lake. I was a little wary about going in but the farmer turned up and assured me it was ok.
As for the fishing - loads of big carp cruising about on the surface. Had a nice common on floating crust at 9 pounds and hooked into a bigger fish that snapped my line. Couldn't get a bite on the float or the ledger on sweet corn, bread or luncheon meat.

Would be interested to know what the gentleman who caught the wide variety of fish was using bait and method wise. Will definitely return after I've reassessed my tactics!

Would be interested to correspond with others who have fished here - I can be contacted on andrewsharp31@googlemail.com

River dropping throughout day, several small barbel and chub from swims at lower end of beat during the morning. Lost a couple of hours over lunch as I had to ferry a neighbouring angler to Ross A and E to remove a hook from his hand.
During afternoon I moved further upstream and landed a further three barbel from 7-8lbs to 9-10lbs.
Another great days sport!
