21 barbel caught 8lb 8oz, chub 4lb.
We found the map of the beat was very misleading, the walk to the beat was at least 1 mile from the carpark. There should be more work done between the farmer and the Trust so that it would be possible to park at the bottom of his track. This would only make the walk to the river one field. We found the farmer very helpful on which field to walk to to make it easier for us as we are both 68yrs old. We will fish this again when the problems are sorted. we stayed at Mr and Mrs Anscombe Cider Barn at the top the track near to the Trusts carpark.

WUF note - Following a meeting with the landowner and tenant farmer yesterday, July 25th 2012, we can report that the access issues will be resolved in the next few weeks. In the meantime, there is a ½ mile walk from the car park down the track to the river’s edge (measured on Google Earth and GIS). Anyone concerned about this is asked to refrain from booking Lower Canon Bridge for now. We will announce when the improvements have been made on beat’s webpage.

3 barbel and 2 nice chub. Hard work finding them as pushing through in swims close to salmon house beat 3, so roved a bit.

7 barbel caught on pellet. The fishing was hard as the weather had turned and it was a gloriously hot summer day. The river was still coloured and moving quite quickly. Biggest was 7lbs 13oz. All wonderful fish on a beautiful stretch of river. The steps that have been cut in for the swims was very helpful. Thank you Wye and Usk Foundation for opening up such a wonderful venue. I will be back again next year!

Sunday 22nd - River high very coloured very slow sport. Managed one small Barbel 5lb'ish and a small Chub 2-3lbs.

Monday 23rd - River dropping back a bit. Still very coloured and a lot of debris coming down. A bit more action with 3 Barbel, best 9lbs 3oz, other two not weighed but around 5 & 7 lbs respectively. Also had 1 good chub of 6lbs 2oz and one fish lost.

Tuesday 24th - River continuing to drop back and now around 1ft lower than 1st day. Could only start around 9.30am and had to pack up around 2.45 pm but managed a couple of barbel one around the 5/6 lb mark. The other I put at 8lbs+ (not weighed). Both fish came in 1st hour with no further action.

13 barbel & 5 chub caught, all fish caught on pellet with most coming from the bridge swim. This must be one of the most scenic parts of the wye you could wish to spend the day on.

First of 4 days on Courtfield and Wyebank, river still up but dropping and what a change in the weather with clear blue skies and temperatures in the eighties, good for fishing but maybe not for catching. All fished the meadow on Courtfield as Wyebank still up and running and P opened up with an 8lb Barbel from the middle of the meadow and went on to catch another fish of a similar size plus two Chub. K followed this with a 8lb 12oz fish from the waterworks end and had another two plus two Chub. Champ on the day though was A 15 yr old son J who with A fished the last swim on the meadow for a cracking fish of 9lbs 4ozs plus a smaller sample. Dad fishing alongside could only manage a 6lb fish plus 2 Chub to 4lbs 8ozs. I wieghed in with 3 Barbel between 6-7lbs from the middle of the meadow, banks still very slippery.

The river was a good height and colour with level slowly falling throughout the day. We fished from 9am to 4pm burnt off the bank by the unrelenting sun in our faces (don't complain). Total catch 6 barbel and one chub taken by one rod all on feeder fished pellet.
