I thoroughly enjoyed my day on this beautiful stretch of river. I fished from 9.15am to 5pm and I caught eight Barbel and lost one due to a hookpull. They ranged in size from 4lb to 7lb 12oz and caught them throughout the day. The first one fell to Bacon Grill, and the rest all came on Halibut Pellets. I only caught my first ever Barbel 2 days ago (Essex boy who only fishes lakes), so for me this was a red letter day. As this was also the 4th and final day of my fishing holiday and I had struggled for bites in the fast water the previous 3 days, I'm going home on a high. I'm already planning to return asap, so thanks a lot WUF, and thanks to IYCF magazine where I first read about you.

3 barbel 18 chub all caught on pellet. River was high and very coloured but we still had two great days fishing. Accommodation at the Pound B and B next to the Boat pub was out of this world. Thanks.

Fished 4.30pm -8.30pm. First time on this beat and the river was high and coloured so had to apply educated guesswork regarding good swims. Must have guessed OK as I caught 5 Barbel from 6lbs to 8lbs 2oz and a massive Eel which thankfully unhooked itself and slithered back into the river.

Third time here this season and the third time its had 5 ft plus on! Lovely sunny day though, started at 2pm just as it began to fall and was immediately amongst the fish Barbel and nuisance chublets. Quiet period between 4pm and 6pm as it got very hot then they switched on again. Large chunks of meat pulled in 3 barbelat 9lbs+ and an 8lbs+ in the next 40 mins before my landing net handle broke under the hammering its taken these last 5 weeks. Tried to fix it but it wasn't up to it. No way of landing fish so went home happy and sunburned.

The river had risen with yesterdays heavy rain being 5ft up and swim selection was very limited. Despite 4 of us fishing all day we only managed 2 barbel between us - very dissappointing as normally find fish feeding well in such conditions.

3 barbel to 8lbs and no chub today on a fast rising river, all caught again on the pellet feeder. Courtfield is a lovely fishery , Don very helpful and booking with Wye and Usk Foundation is so easy, highly recommended.

Arrived to find the river just right. Fished midway down the beat and at the end. In the first 30 minutes had two barbel each. Then the river started to rise and even with chest waders decided to head for the higher banks. Over a cup of tea the river came up another 6".
Then the branches and trees started to drift down in the flow together with the odd sheep.
It goes to show that even if you had no rain near, somewhere in the catchment area they had lots. Please don't underestimate the power and speed at which this river rises. Safety always comes first. Can't wait to return though as this beat has been little fished.

We arrived on a wet morning and after parking found the long walk to the river rather tiring as this required passing over and around several gates and through long grass and nettles. In all it took us 20 mins fully loaded with gear to reach the first of the useful swims. There were several nice swims some obviously more used than others with the top end seemingly the most popular.
We caught 14 barbel to about 8lb and numerous chub and most of the fish came during a short spell between 1pm and 3pm with nothing much earlier or later. The river was about 1m high but easily fishable however you should be prepared for tackle losses in the first two swims.
Upon leaving and walking up the lane we did encounter a problem with an aggressive farmer who said we should have walked the long way around the fishery in all approx 2 miles which was ludicrous when a much shorter path was clearly marked on the map. He is obviously most unhappy about people fishing here and after waving a large piece of wood in our direction told us not to come back again. I believe he is a tenant and not at all happy with the arrangement the landowners have with WUF. I am mailing the WUF fishery officers seperately on this as feel this could have turned ugly.
Otherwise, a nice fishery with many easily accessable swims once you reach the waterside.

WUF Note: We are meeting the landowner and the farmer on Wednesday to resolve the access issues.
